what do you want

Yesterday Kathy posted about things that make her happy. Our Jaunty Quills community is very, very high on my happy list. I particularly love the way we all interact. Sometimes the blog is more like a chat room with back and forth banter and sharing.  It’s so much fun to talk to you, to hear your thoughts on our posts and the stories you share.

Recently, my sister Jaunties and I have been wondering what makes YOU happy?  What do you like to read about here on the blog? Do you like glimpses into our writing processes? How we come up with ideas; how those ideas eventually make it to the page? Kristan’s post about making out with her hand springs to mind.  (Haha! Waving at Kristan) Do you like glimpses into our personal lives and hobbies… a la Kathy’s ode to her son or the time Robyn gave you a tour of her crafting/scrapbooking room? Do you like us to post recipes or previews of coming releases? How about character interviews? Or guest bloggers? What would you think about us doing occasional JQ blog reader spotlights where we interview you? Maybe we could do a ‘Reader of the Month’ feature?

question marksToday, it’s all about you, dear readers. What would YOU like to see here on the JQ blog? And the possibilities are not limited to what I stated above.  Those were simply suggestions to get you thinking.  So tell us…what would you like to read about?Celebration's Bride

I just received several advance copies of my new book CELEBRATION’S BRIDE, which will be released in July. I will give away copies to several of you who comment. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

I love to hear about my fav authors, what happening in their lives and what books they have out and what will be coming in the future. I always enjoy what ever is posted here on this blog. And if a book is in the offing well that is just the icing on the cake.

I would be interested in knowing each author’s ten favorite books Always looking for recs:)

Like getting to know the authors, like previews of the books, like the contests. Also like how you bring people in — guest bloggers help me learn about new-to-me authors. Like the post right before, with your favorite book recommendations, b/c I love to find new books to read.

I love previews into upcoming books, character interviews are fun, love recommendations from you guys (it’s how I find new authors), giveaways are always a blast, finding out the background of the books (ie. how you came up with the ideas, your writing process, etc.) and any random thoughts you all want to share. Cheers!

I love the blogs that the authors write that makes the reader feel like they are a next-door neighbor kind of friend. It’s great to hear about the real you and your families too. Of course, I want to know all about your novels, what you have written and what’s coming up. In addition, it’s fun to know what makes each author tick and what they like to read in their free time. In a nutshell, just be yourselves and share your real selves with your readers.

  9. So I make out with my hand. We all do it (or not…maybe it really is freaky after all). Thanks for posting this question, Nancy, and thanks for chiming in, readers! This blog is for you, after all… xox

Actually I like all your suggestions and pretty much anything you want to post about. I love the variety. I enjoy the give and take. You guys always come up with interesting topics so I have to say just keep up with what you are doing.

  11. Thank you for your post and giveaway, Nancy. I’m not into recipes, but the other topics you and the commenters listed have possibilities.

As a no-name writer, I’m interested in published writers’ thoughts and experiences that could be useful to writers like me. As a reader, I’m interested in authors’ insights and opinions on topics concerning fiction, especially romance. Which topics? Well, which ones are you most interested in?

:x Allow me to mention one type of post that frequently turns up in romance blogs and websites: excerpts from new and upcoming releases. When I see one, even if it’s from a book by an author I dig, I skip it.

Why? Because it’s out of context. A scene may be wonderfully dramatic or emotional or suspenseful or sexy in the context of the whole story. But on the outside, the scene is just so many words.

I don’t know these characters. I have little if any idea of what’s been going on in the plot before the excerpt. I won’t find out what happens after unless and until I read the novel.

Because of the lack of context, there’s a lot in the excerpt that doesn’t and can’t convey to the reader the meaning the author intends. Or doesn’t make sense at all.

Do excerpts give readers a good idea of what a novel is about? I say no. Whatever information can be gleaned from an excerpt can be conveyed through a summary of the book. And in a much more concise and accurate manner.

Do excerpts sell books? You’ll have to ask a marketing expert. All I can say for certain is, they don’t sell books to this reader.

Well, I’ve had my say. Good luck with the release of “Celebration’s Bride”!

    Great post, Nancy!

When I think of my favorite authors, what I like to know is what they’re currently working on…

I’m new here and what I see is pretty good. I just have to get to know all you authors. I like that you give away giveaways to your books, so that way I get a chance to read. Do you have new ideas that you would like to change or add to? I’m so glad that I found this page, thanks, Donna

  15. Thanks for all the great comments, everyone! We all really appreciate your input. I’ll announce the winners on Sunday.

I like to hear about the new books, what are they about. Inspiration and background info are nice. Find out what I need to be on the lookout for. I’m always making wishlists
But I also love the blogs that have personal stories of my fav authors. What’s happening with them. Stories that make me feel like I know them a little better, make me smile and feel like I can relate. Also hearing about what stories they are working on, how the writing is going.
Interviews of readers can be fun if it focusses on our shared love of books and romance. I’m already getting to “know” my fellow blog readers by checking out their comments on all the posts so…

Also character interviews are great, about your WIP. And the giveaways are always awesome! I like that you pick winners on Sunday, because if I don’t get to check during the week, I can do so Friday or Saturday and still have a chance to participate ;-) Congrats on Celebration Bride!

I love knowing that authors are real people. I like getting information I can use like recycling post to use different items for organizing the wine rack towel holder.
