RELAX: NO SPOILERS IN THIS BLOG
On Sunday, January 6, season 3 of Downton Abbey premiered in the U.S. Many of you, like me, have been waiting months and months for it to resume. We’ve had to carefully avoid any spoilers from over the pond, where it was already showing, and we had to watch the first and second seasons again in preparation.
Some of you are wondering what all the fuss is about. That’s easy.
1. The Clothes
Lady Mary, LadyEdith, and Lady Sybil wear fabulous clothes.
2. The on-again-off-again love affair between Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley is riveting and often surprising. It doesn’t hurt that Dan Stevens, who plays our hero, is easy on the eyes.
3. The conflicts dealing with the servants below stairs are just as fascinating as those dealing with the gentry. In fact, sometimes they’re even more interesting. Love, hate, money, scandal, treachery, murder…that’s what makes Downton Abbey so popular.
Are you watching Downton Abbey? If not, why not? If so, what do you like about it? Warn us if you include any spoliers!
I’ll give away TWO ARCs of my next book, IF YOU GIVE A RAKE A RUBY, to readers who comment!

I saw a few episodes the first season and liked it. However, it conflicted with what other family members wanted to watch. It is just the type of program I enjoy. I need to find a way to watch the previous shows and catch up with this season. A second TV would help.

Librarypat, you definitely need a second TV. My husband and I have always had two because no one but him can watch that much sports.

Love Downton. The time period 1912-1920′s was a time of change throughout the world. The clothes & jewelry & scenery are fabulous. I love the Lady Mary & Mathew & Anna & Bates storylines. Maggie Smith’s Violet is a hoot–my husband enjoys her commentary. I am glad that Lady Sybil and Tom have returned…and am curious about Lady Edith’s wedding the weekend.

I’m curious about Lady Edith’s wedding, too, Susan. I’m also curious about the marriage. She really pushed for it. Will she be happy?

No, I’m afraid I don’t watch it but that’s because I rarely watch anything on tv other than the news & sports (tennis!). My dad doesn’t let anyone else take over the tv remote!

Linda, my dad was the same way. My husband is a bit possessive too. You have to get your dad watching it!

I started to watch Downton Abbey after many authors commented about it. I like it because of the elegant ambiance and reserved nature of the characters.

Kaye, I agree. It’s almost more about what they don’t say.

My hubby gets into the show even more than me! He loves the edginess of it and is intrigued with the way they lived back then. He wouldn’t have been interested years ago but because I always rattle on about the Regency period, he can’t help but become intrigued with it all. Season 3 hasn’t started in Australia yet, very soon though!

I’ve watched the program from day one and won’t miss a single episode. Season 3 is stacking up to be maybe the best season yet. Love the costumes. Love the characters, both upstairs and downstairs. Love the abbey and the cars! Can you tell I’m a fan? FREE MR. BATES!
Oh, and thanks for the giveaway!
