I’ve told you mine – now you tell me yours. What do you like most about reading romance? I’m going to draw the name of one commenter and send her a copy of The Warrior Laird.

What I love best about romance novels is that moment where you think all is lost and you feel that punch in the gut that the hero and heroine might never be together and then the characters do whatever they can to be with each other.

I agree with Katherine…when you FEEL how hard it is for the character, when they’re just unable to come through in that moment…for some weird reason, I love that. Maybe it’s because they break through in the end.

I love the happy endings.
Normal life can be sad and difficult sometimes. The characters in the books also expirience some obstacles, but everything turns out in the end. It gives you a little hope that your situation will turn out okay also.

I read for the escape and to experience the feel of falling in love over and over. I love that reading romance gives me butterflies and makes my heart stop. There is nothing better than curling up with a book that can make you forget everything and just make you sigh with relief.

Great list, Margo!
I read romances for many of the same reasons. I love history and this makes it come alive for me. I love police procedurals (most of my TV shows) but reading them combined with a romance is the best because you get the noodly stuff combined with heat and passion. I love falling in love, those giddy feelings, makes me love my husband (in that new, fresh way) all over again. I love the enduring power of love and seeing the truth of that theme again and again is empowering, makes the world we live in not so dark and depressing. And because it’s awesome!

You really nailed it with that great list. I have been reading romance novels for what seems like a gazillion years and they just keep getting better and better. I love to learn about the particular time period in which the novels was written. I’ve always felt that history, as taught in classrooms, tends to be dry, dull and boring. At least it was for me. Then, I starting reading more and more romance novels and found that I really enjoy learning about the past. Wouldn’t it be nice if teachers would allow students to read and discuss a novel in class? It doesn’t have to be about the “good parts” but rather stress the dress, the mode of travel and the manners. Reading romance novels allows me to let my imagination relax and be taken back to a more graceful time. Throw in a handsome hero and a beautiful heroine and I’m a really happy reader.

Everything you said. I read other types of books but I constantly come back to my romances. They make me happy. And since I love variety, there is every type of story imaginable. The last book I read that was not a romance had me totally depressed and my reaction is why am I reading this!!! I want to be taken away but why not to a happy place

I love reading romance because of the feel-good feelings, the adventure of travel, the excitement of new love in the early stages (after 18 years of marriage it is often hard to recall), the artful way each author is different in delivery and emotion and of course for the HEA! I don’t like reading any books without a HEA unless it is continued with a guaranteed HEA at the end. I love books because they leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, like a good movie but they last longer! Oh, and I love expanding my vocabulary or reading something that makes me think “hum, what a great way to use that word!”
