Almost exactly eight years ago (on September 22, 2004), a nifty little show premiered on UPN that quickly became one of my all time favorite shows: Veronica Mars. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show, it’s a modern noir about a high school student (the titular Veronica) who moonlights as a private investigator and searches for the person who murdered her best friend. The show had great acting, clever mysteries and some of the wittiest dialogue on TV. Yeah, yeah, that’s all well and good, but here’s the ace in the hole: it also had one of my favorite TV romances.
When it was out in 2004, I think my husband and I were the only people we knew who watched it. (This is evidenced by the fact that the show lasted only three years. As much as I loved the show, my will alone was not enough to keep it on the air.) The show has developed quite a following since then and fans all over the world love the romance that I love.
I recently convinced my friend (and fellow Ivy Adams writer), Shellee Roberts, to watch the first season. She’s completely hooked. We call all the time to crush on the hero of the show. It’s so much fun sharing this crush with her! First time around, I watched the show with The Geek. When the couple kissed for the first time, I did a first pumped, yelled “I knew it!” and then danced around the living room. He smiled and said, “Yeah, I thought that might happen.”
I love a lot of TV shows. Shows with great characters and fun dialogue. But I only really, really love the shows with a great romance. I don’t just mean some obligatory couple thrown in (though, for the record, I’m also down with that), I mean a great romance. With chemistry. With tension. With angst and anguish. Oooohh, I’m getting all gooey inside just thinking about the possibilities.
Here are some of my favorite TV couples: Lois and Clark (loved them!), Monica and Chandler from Friends (best *ever* friends to lovers story), Tom and B’Ellana from Star Trek Voyager (do you have any idea how long we Trekies had to wait for a great romance????) and, finally, Beckett and Castle (fantastic hook up when it finally came!).
Who are your favorite TV couples?

My daughter has just gotten into Veronica Mars and coupled with your recommendation I don’t think I can put off watching it any longer. My favorite TV couple…I don’t watch that much TV so I have to really think I loved Maddie and David on Moonlighting, but that was ages ago. I’d say Castle and Beckett but I don’t really watch the show!

Ioved Troy and Worf! I *so* wish they’d introduced that plot earlier in the series, because I could have watched that way longer! But I also loved Worf and Dax! I almost mentioned both of those romances, but couldn’t decide which to do!

Bones & Booth, Castle & Beckett. Sawyer and Juliet on Lost. And I always hoped Janeway and Chakotay would get together on Star Trek Voyager, but alas, never happened.

Kay, I’m with you on Janeway and Chakotay! He was such a great romantic hero! I mean, I get why they decided against it. They wanted her to be strong on her own. They needed that from her as a captain. But the romantic in me really, really wanted it!

Okay, confession time. I’ve never seen Moonlighting! Never! Not a single episode!
A couple of years ago, I looked for it on iTunes and it wasn’t available. I should check now, though, because I bet it is now.

Oh my…I love Veronica Mars too! It’s one of my secret passions! I have all three seasons in my DVD collection and in fact, just watched them all again a few weeks ago. I absolutely loved the first kiss between Logan and Veronica! I also stop the DVD to just look at it! I’m so weird! I feel a bit voyeuristic! LOL
I’ve been watching Smallville: S2 and JAG:S4 on DVD from Netflix. As you can see, I’m still early in both those series. But I really love the interaction between Harm & Mac. I hope they eventually hook up. I’m open to spoilers if anyone knows!
I love the chemistry between Rick & Kate in Castle…one of my favorite TV programs right now. I also like the interplay between Tony & Ziva on NCIS. Then there was Mulder and Scully…another of my favorite all-time couples.

Ah, Karen! A fellow Martian! (I totally made that up, but isn’t that what we should be called?) And you shouldn’t feel ashamed of your Veronica/Logan love. It’s the best TV romance ever!
Also, there’s this whole community on-line of folks who love it. And there are never groups of crazy people on-line, right?
If you ever want to waste an entire afternoon, go on youtube and you can watch just all the best Logan/Veronica clips. Not that I’ve ever done that….
Also … loved Mulder and Scully!

I 100% totally agree that Chandler and Monica are the best friends to lovers romance ever. Everyone was all about Rachel and Ross, but for me, it was about Chandler and Monica. Case in point, when I put up my profile on the dating sites so long ago, that was my headline: Looking for Chandler Bing.
Also love Castle and Beckett. I liked Angela & Hodgins on Bones better than the lead couple. And I love Penny and Leonard on Big Bang.
From my youth, I loved Sully & the Medicine woman.

I’m a Veronica/Logan lover…
Castle and Beckett! That last scene *killed me*! I cannot wait until next Monday!
Love Damon/Elana from the Vampire Diaries, Eric/Sookie from True Blood, Annie/Auggie from Covert Affairs (listen to what the man needs to tell you all ready!) and soooo many more I just can’t even… I’m a tv romance lover
