I’m just coming off of my deadline-binge-o-manic writing today and let me say that pulling all-nighters is a thing for the younguns! LOL! To them, it’s fun to be so wired on caffeine that it takes three days to get to sleep… To me, closer to the midpoint between 55 and 60, it’s just not pretty. In addition to looking like something the cat dragged in, I FEEL like something the cat dragged in. It can take weeks to recover from these binges, leaving me with a need to recuperate and refill the well.
So, tomorrow evening (after I get some quality sleep and have my hair colored to repair the awful, terrible results of deadline binge writing), hubby and I are seeking out a bit of nostalgia for some R&R — we’re going to a Beatles sing-along show at a local British fish and chip shop! Doesn’t that sound like fun? We have gone to see RAIN, a Beatles tribute show, and watched the ‘British Invasion’ rock group at Epcot countless times, singing songs from the 60s and on. It should be fun and one of those things you can do without really thinking about it.
This is the first of several nostalgia events I’ll be going to this fall — including a MONKEES reunion (alas, now without my shoulda-been husband Davy Jones) and my ever-fav Rick Springfield. And it got me to thinking — if you could have, should have, would have, seen a group or personality when you/they/we all were younger — who would it be? My two are already listed in this post — The Monkees WITH DAVY and The Beatles.
You? Who do you wish you’d seen in concert? Who have you seen? How was it? (More importantly – how did they look!?)
Terri will be sleeping for a week and then look somewhat revived from this latest binge o’ writing. In the meantime, she’d thrilled that her newest Harlequin Historical is now available widely in all kinds of formats! and she just learned that her next MacLerie Clan story will be called AT THE HIGHLANDER’S MERCY and be out in April 2013~ woohooo!! Terri–we share a crush! I wish I’d seen Rick Springfield in concert in the 80s when I was in full-teenaged-girl-crush but I did get to see him a few years ago at the House of Blues and it was awesome.
I also adore Dave Matthews and each time I go to one of his concerts I don’t want to leave. The music is so intense live.
Congrats on finishing your book, can’t wait to read it.

I have never been able to do all-nighters, not even when I was in college. About 2 a.m. I’d decide the test really wasn’t worth it and go to sleep. I just don’t get the adrenaline rush or whatever it takes to stay awake. I have to write my books over time or they won’t get done.
As far as nostalgia, I don’t have much lately. I’m seeing Clifford and Mickey Mouse on Ice in the next few weeks.

I did get to see Bono when I was 17, just before U2 broke into the US mainstream. Sigh! No wonder I married an Irishman!

Lets see, I have seen George Strait (he looks great, btw), Billy Dean, the Statler Brothers, the Gatlin Brothers, Tanya Tucker. She really connects with the audience. Have also seen Lorrie Morgan who looks scared the entire concert. I always wanted to see Frankie Avalon in concert.

I’d love to have seen the Beatles, The Moody Blues, Shania and Queen. I’ve heard that Aerosmith puts on a great show.
I have seen Jethro Tull’s A Passion Play (quite unique! and an exciting experience), Loggins and Messina,
REO Speedwagon, Ricky Nelson, John Prine, The Beach Boys (lively), The Buckinghams, Tommy James and the Shondells and Leo Kottke.

We saw Leo Kottke a couple of years ago and he was great! So was James Taylor.
Other than those two, I haven’t been to a “pop” concert in years. But I did see Frank Zappa a loooooong time ago.

I’ve seen Shaggy in concert and it was so much fun!
I like his music, but it’s not like I’m his biggest fan. It’s just that when he was on stage… he was sooo entertaining.
I had a great night and would love to do it again.

Simon and Garfunkel was my favorite group and I have got to see them 3 times! But I missed the very first time that I could have – my boyfriend (now husband) had tickets but we had a snowstorm and he didn’t think he could get to my house so he took one of his guy friends instead – I never really forgave him for that one lol. Another big one was seeing Elvis! I’ve also seen Barry Manilow, The Who, Manheim Steamroller and Yanni twice. I wanted tickets to Garth Brooks but he sold out really qucikly.

Fun post, Terri! Congrats on finishing the book. You deserve a vacation. I’ve seen lots and lots of concerts (we’re talking three figures +, here). I’ve seen everything from Celtic Women and Pink Martini to Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys to The Who, Aerosmith, the Eagles and Nickelback (and everything in between). Recently, I saw Roger Waters perform “The Wall.” It was surreal and pretty darn close to his band Pink Floyd’s version. I never got to see Pink Floyd and wish I had. Like catslady, I also love Simon and Garfunkel, but never saw them. (I have S&G envy, catslady!). My biggest regret is never seeing the Beatles/John Lennon (Paul McCartney is at the top of my wish list). Some of my favorites have been Jimmy Buffet, the Gypsy Kings, Billy Joel and Elton John. The Stones (Keith Richards slapped me a high five) and believe it or not John Mellencamp (Mellencamp was a concert I wasn’t very jazzed about seeing, but my hubby wanted to go and I ended up having such a good time. I’d forgotten how many great songs he has). But my ABSOLUTE favorite – there’s a tie because I can’t choose (the performed at separate concerts, of course)- are Don Henley (just because I LOVE his music) and Sting (I got to meet Sting. I can attest that he is a gentleman and a poet. And gorgeous!! Swoon!)

How could I forget, one of my other absolutes are Matchbox Twenty (those who know me well know that Rob Thomas is my secret fantasy man; I’ve had the chance to meet Rob, but declined because I don’t want to spoil the fantasy.); and Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. We got to meet Faith and Tim. Both are class acts. Faith is even more gorgeous in person and Tim was so nice to my daughter. Because of that he will forever have my heart. In case you’re thinking I’m an insufferable groupie, I’m not. My hubby is in a business where he has proximity to concerts…more concerts than we can handle, actually.
