Although we’re reposting some of our favorite blogs this month, I realized that I simply had to share some new things with you. From decades of being the parent of school-aged kids, August meant one thing — freedom was close at hand. . . er. . . the little darlings would be going back to school soon. Target and Staples clearly understand the situation and the feelings of millions of parents (and kids) and have done their best each year to remind us of the joy of the season…! LOL.
First, let me share the gold standard against which everything else is judged:
From Staples —
Still the classic, but the new ones from Target are putting on a strong show:
English teacher:
Science teacher:
Music teacher
(a repeat performance by last year’s music teacher — who could forget “denim….denim….denim, Shaun White hoodies and denim….”?
So, as the summer winds down and fall looms ever closer on the horizon, I wanted to ask you — how was your summer? Did it meet your expectations? Anything you’re looking forward to in the fall? Post a comment and let me know and I’ll pick a couple of people to receive a copy of on of my digital short stories/novellas. As a bonus, if you can tell me the titles/artists of the original songs used in the commercials above, post them and I’ll award a collection of all my digital shorts – A Night for Her Pleasure, Kidnapping the Laird, What The Duchess Wants, and this month’s new release – Taming the Highland Rogue to 3 people with the correct answers!
Terri returns to her favorite place and time – the medieval Highlands of Scotland – as she begins a new series of stories about the next generation of the MacLerie Clan. THE HIGHLANDER’S STOLEN TOUCH is a September release and is available now at Harlequin or can be pre-ordered everywhere else for its August 27 paperback release.
Visit Terri’s website for links and info about this and all her books!

Yes, I know exactly how those parents feel!
This year, summer seemed a couple of weeks longer than usual here in Texas and the last two weeks, my kids have been climbing the walls. Part of me knows that this last week of summer I should just be cherishing every moment, but instead, I put them in swim camp for every morning this week. I just couldn’t take any more of them playing peacefully together for a while and then–out of nowhere–lunging at each other like feral beasts. We all need the distraction school will provide.

I’m counting down till the end of summer. I’m so excited to end soon. It’s not that it was a bad summer just a long one. We didn’t do much still adjusting to the move. I’m looking forward to the start of school, my child needs to go back.
Ok the songs above are:
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (artist: Andy Williams)
We Got The Beat (artist: Go-Go’s)
She Blinded Me with Science (artist: Thomas Dolby)
Word Up (artist: Cameo)
If you have been to Target lately those songs fit. It seems like the 80s are trying to make a come back.

At first I thought this post was going to be about Christmas, but you know what, back to school is a great time of the year if you’re a parent.

I’m a grandmother now so I won’t put myself in this “contest,” however, I remember those glorious days of back to school for the children. Every year on the first day, I would open their bedroom doors very early and start singing the old song, “School Days.” Oh, if only I had thought to have a camera in my hands! If looks could kill, I would have been shot down on the spot! *grin* Ahhhh….I loved it. Such an evil mother!

My summer went far too quickly! (I’m a teacher.) Honestly, that Staples commercial is my all time favorite! The new Target ones are cute, but they are such ear worms.

So many schools are going to the ‘balanced calendar’ that it seems like school is never really ‘over for the summer’. My husband retired from teaching this past year, so this is our first non-school fall. He sat out in the driveway with a cigar & a beer and waved to the school bus drivers that first afternoon!!

It has been a very busy summer for us. My husband has Stage 4 Lymphoma Cancer and we have been going back and forth to the VA constantly for all kinds of appointments. He is almost ready for his 6th chemo in September and we are praying for remission. I am really looking forward to the Fall. That is one of my favorite times of the year. It is cooler and I don’t take heat well. I am not familiar with songs past the 70′s, so the only one I know was It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year by Andy Williams. Love that song! What a wonderful giveaway Terri! Thank you!
