Sometime many moons ago Emily and I were a conference and came across some author and sadly I don’t remember who it was, but she had a charm bracelet and each charm represented one of her books. We both thought it was a great idea. Well, Emily bought me my bracelet when I sold and already had 2 charms on it when she gave it to me. I get lots of questions about this when I wear it for book signings and whatnot, but it occured to me that you, my online buddies, never get to see it and it’s so pretty, I wanted to share it with you. So here were go:
My apologies in advance for some of poor quality of some of the photos, I took them with my iPhone.
In this one you can see the hat, it’s for my first book, Courting Claudia, because Claudia wears big, ugly hats. And there’s also the engagement ring which is for my short story, Her Gentleman Theif that was originally printed in one of the Mammoth Books, in it the heroine is a runaway bride. The mask is for Tempted At Every Turn because there’s an important scene at a masked ball.
The rose, which I bought really just to commemorate my joining PAN (the published authors’ network in Romance Writers of America) is because my RWA chapter at the time gave a rose when you sold your first book. The fan is my newest charm and it’s for my upcoming book, A Little Bit Wicked, it’s for a fun scene, well, with a fan. The other one you can’t see very well, but it’s actually a little crown, I got it when I won the Reader’s Crown award.
Ah, the pipe, this is one of my very favorites cause it’s so darn cute! It’s for A Study in Scandal because that heroine is obsessed with Sherlock Holmes and fancies she’s found one of her own when she meets the inspector hero. The box of chocolates is probably one of the best charms I’ve found to represent a book because Deliciously Wicked takes place in a chocolate factory!
The little castle is for Treasure Me since so much of it takes place in tunnels and caves beneath Urquhart Castle at the edge of Loch Ness. The phone was one of the ones that Emily had put on the bracelet for me and it represents when I got “the Call”. This little chest was hard to find, but I was so excited when I found it because it’s perfect. It’s for Seduce Me and therefore is my little representation of Pandora’s Box.
That little peapod is the other one Emily bought and she has a matching one. Feel free to make fun of us, but you know it’s cute. Ah, the dove, I think this is my absolute favorite as far as matching a book so very perfectly. It’s for Desire Me and well for those of you who’ve read the book can easily see why this is so right. And then finally the star, I bought this one to represent when I finally won one of the Reviewer’s Choice awards – I’ve been nominated for 4, so it was nice to finally win one.
So that’s it, a journey through my books via my jewelry. Do y’all have charm bracelets? Or anything else you do to commemorate special moments in your life?

I don’t wear bracelets, but I have my space necklace with the charms of: a telescope, binoculars, two space shuttles (one with the full stack – external tank and booster rockets – and one without) and a spacewalking astronaut.
Given it’s been since the 90s since I was actually at a space related place in the country, definitely a good thing the internet exists, so I could get all those! LOL

I have a charm bracelet that I never wear anymore. I have not wore it for many years. I received the bracelet and one charm, it was my birthstaone for my 18th birthday. I have charms from all over the world, as far away as China.. But it just sits int he drawer. I was thinking about giving it to one of my nieces, and see if they wanted to continue adding charms to it.. It’s a shame in never sees the light of day…

What a great idea! Thanks for sharing the backstory of your charm bracelet. I’d love to hear Emily’s, too, sometime.

Wow, you found some that are just so perfect! Amazing! I have a charm bracelet, too, inspired by you, but I’ve not bought charms for the last 4 books. I need a plane and a MN charm, I think.

When I was in school it was all the craze and I kept my bracelet up for maybe 20 yrs. Special events in my life and from many of our travels too. I lost one that I couldn’t replace and put it away after that but every once in a while I take it out for the memories.

What a terrific idea! Hope more authors do that. You can have all of your “babies” right at your fingertips!
I have a charm bracelet that my Godmother gave me when I was a little girl. I’m a much older little girl now.
I treasure that bracelet and always will.

I don’t have a charm bracelet, but I got Baby Galen one when she was born and have been adding charms at every Christmas for her. By the time she’s old enough to wear it, she should have quite a few, all with special meanings.

Wow – great braceley, Robyn!
No, I don’t have any bracelets. I don’t even wear a wristwatch! For some reason, it really bugs me to have something around my wrist.
I love all your charms, though. Very lovely and symbolic!

That’s cool about the bracelet. I do have a charm bracelet, but I havent really added anything on too it. However, when we go on a family trip we usually get a snow globe. It all started when we got married. We have one for the San Diego Zoo & wild animal park, Disneyland, South Padre Island, Santa Barbara Zoo, Sea World, and Hearst Castle. However, Yellowstone didn’t have a snow globe, but got a rock that has a pic of Yellowstone. We also collect ornaments for the states we live in.

That’s so cool that so many of you also have charm bracelets.
MJ, I’m glad I inspired you to update yours. It’s a nice reward for working hard on a book.
Shana, I might have to totally steal that idea! Love it.
Margo, you know I’m not really wild about stuff on my wrist either. I don’t wear it everyday, it’s for special occasions. I also don’t wear a watch.
Melody, I have ornaments from all the places I travel. Makes my tree a nice walk down memory lane.
