I feel pretty

I’m getting author pictures taken today and I’m so nervous. I’ve been fretting about what to wear, how to do my hair (though admittedly I don’t really have more than one hair style) and how to do my make-up. Now I’ve shared on here before that I’m really not much of a fashionista. I’m a casual kind of girl so I’m most comfy in jeans and a t-shirt with bare feet. So I’ve never been super girly when it comes to clothes. But when it comes to make-up, oh, I’m all about the glam!

Now I don’t wear much make-up on a day-to-day basis since I don’t work outside of the home anymore. But when I do put it on, I like to try new techniques, new colors, whatever to get a different look. Mostly I’m talking about eye make-up here. I’ve never been one for bright lipstick, though I love shiny lips, but prefer a natural look there. I don’t know, I always feel like I look like a vampire when I have real color on my lips. But eye make=up, I go all kinds of bold. I love the smokey look or the light and natural look, I love the colored eye-shadow from the 80′s look. It’s always kinda of been my thing.

I used to love putting make-up on all my girlfriends. But you learn really fast that not everyone’s eyelids are made the same. I happen to have pretty good lids for eye-shadwo as my eyes are deep-set. Haven’t done make-up on anyone in a while, but I do look forward to teaching my girls someday all about the joys of make-up.

So how about you? Are you a glam girl or do you prefer to go au naturel? Do you have favorite brands or products or do you just go on a whim and buy what looks good? Any photo tips for me?

Robyn–I do like to glam it up. And I spend a lot of time online tracking down how-to videos to make myself look fabulous! My best tip is in regards to the photo–spend some time looking in the mirror before you go get the pictures taken and practice the looks you want. I find that the smile that looks best in pictures to me feels forced but it really does look the best so I do that. You are so pretty that I”m sure your new photos are going to be great. Can’t wait to see them.

I understand your nervousness. I don’t care to have my picture taken. Never have. I do wear makeup because I don’t want little children to see me and run away crying or scare the little birdies out of the trees! ;-)

I like the pictures of my authors to be as natural as possible. That’s doesn’t mean a photo of you just out of bed, yawning and scratching. How about a setting that’s a part of your life; clothes that you usually wear and are comfortable and a smiling photo of the REAL you? I think readers can better connect with you that way. However, whatever you choose that pleases YOU will be terrific. Be sure to post them soon, OK? Have fun!

I hardly ever wear makeup or do my hair in real life. I do like to put makeup on. It can be fun if I get it right the first time. I don’t like to do my hair. I’m getting a keratin treatment later this month in hopes I no longer have to do my hair.

I cannot remember the last time I wore makeup. I don’t like the feel of it on my skin. Plus we seldom go anyplace except to the gym to workout or to shop. It has been so hot here that makeup wouldn’t last very long.

I love eye makeup, too. =) I’ve always wanted to get a professional makeover where they teach you how to apply makeup correctly. One day! Maybe I’ll go with SuperGirl and WonderGirl. =) Can’t wait to see your new author photos!

I’m allergic to make up – it makes my eyes burn… even foundation. The only brand of foundation I can wear is Cover Girl (which I found out after spending tons on the “better” hypoallergenic brands). But no eye make up. Besides the allergies, I have to put drops in my eyes twice a day, and so my eyes are pretty much *always* burning and uncomfortable these days.

Good luck with the photo, Robyn! I’m sure you’ll look beautiful. On regular days, I’m very casual. In fact, I’ll get by with just a bit of powder, mascara and lip gloss. However, I do like to get glammed up on occasion. Then I go full-tilt. But I always make sure my toenails are painted. Usually bright red or pink.
