I’m not a very outgoing person. I mean I can be funny and the life of the party with people I know but with strangers I’m very quiet and shy. A few glasses of wine has been known to make me more outgoing but that’s the exception rather than the rule.
Look at this lady in the picture behind us–my daughter calls this photo bombing. This so unexpected and funny. I smile each time I see her in my picture. I don’t know who she is but she is making me laugh!
I am by nature someone who likes routine and things in their place so by rights this stranger in my picture should bother me but it doesn’t. One of the mom’s I knew when my son was in second grade told me a story about how when she was new in town every day this crossing guard would smile and wave at her. She said she expected that he did that to everyone but as she knew no one in town that little gesture just made her feel a little better about moving to some place unfamiliar.
Have you ever had something unexpected just make you smile?

I am just constantly amazed at how nice people are. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been struggling with a stroller or holding a baby and approaching a door, and someone goes out of their way to open it for me, or carry something to my car, or pick something up that SOMEONE has thrown on the ground. Yesterday I was able to repay the favor. This lady had been trying to get her son out of the play structure at Chick-Fil-A for about 20 minutes. He wouldn’t come down and she couldn’t reach him. I told her I’d watch her stuff and she could climb up and get him. She was pretty skinny, so I knew she could make it. She was so grateful to me, just because I offered to watch her purse! It’s the small things.

A little kindness can go a long way! Pass it forward. If someone waves at me — I wave back. I grew up in a small town where everyone knew everyone.. Since my sisters & I shared the one car… you always waved back — figuring that the wave came from someone who knew at least one of us…

What a cute photo, Kathy!
I do remember something unexpected that made me smile: finding a Mother’s Day card I’d bought for my mom in the fridge! My daughter was a toddler at the time, and she’d been helping me unpack the groceries. I still chuckle every time I think of that discovery.

Kathy, I love this photo!! It made me laugh out loud! Another unexpected thing I love is when I hear someone with a funny or hearty laugh. Especially if I’m out in public and I hear a great laugh rise above the hubbub and din. No matter what mood I’m in, it always tickles my funny bone!

That is a cute photo!
My daughter’s bus driver always makes me smile. He’s just the friendliest man in the world. (No, not in a creepy way.)
He’s not allowed to give treats to the kids, so he always has a bucket of dog bones and gives bones to all the kids who have bones. How cute is that?

I love that photo! So funny…makes you like the woman involved. I had a little girl come up to me in a cafe once and say, “Hello. I love you.” And I said, “I love you, too, honey!” Had never seen her before in my life, but boy, she made my day!
