Summertime

Summer is winding to the end and I’m not ready for it.  As you are reading this my son is starting his last year of middle school and my daughter is heading off to college.  My life is changing.  This Fall will be the one I remember for a long time to come as when I went to being a mother of two school aged kids to being a mother of just one.

The dynamic in my household will change as it will be me and two guys.  I wonder what that will be like and how it will play out.

Have you ever had a big life changing moment that you knew was coming?

Katherine

Kathy, I’m contemplating my daughter going off to college in a couple of years. In some ways two years sounds like a long time, but I fear I’m going to blink and I’ll be waving goodbye. So not ready. Hugs to you on all the changes. You’re my role model. ;)

My daughter just started kindergarten and I’m already nervous about college! Isn’t funny how ill prepared we can feel for something we know is coming?

The Professor and I have been in the adoption game for a while now and we know that someday a phone call will come that will definitely change our lives. The apprehension and excitement that goes along with that can drive me crazy at times.

In the car on the way to the hospital to give birth. I was so excited and scared. I knew the next time we were in that car everything would have changed.

    Katherine,
Life for me has piles of life altering moments which is what life should be. Having children brings these on like none other…seeing my little daughter leave for kindnergarten on that huge yellow bus and leaving me an a big empty house…driving (gasp!)…leaving for college…getting married….having children…and guess what??? It all started over again with my two granddaughters, the eldest is getting her license.
My husband and I moved away from Boston and family to start a B & B in Vermont…big, scary change to move away from where your roots are.
Parents….Seeing my strong, independant parents grow old, get sick, become dependant……….my father’s death.
Life is many things, but never stagnant.

It all goes so fast once you start having kids. My youngest is in her last year of college and I won’t be happy until she is closer to home and has a job to help pay off all those school loans! My oldest graduated college, moved even further away, got engaged, moved back in our area (horray), married, and just recently bought their own home about 5 minutes away (horray again). Next up is grandkids lol.

Christmas 1999 we brought a soon-to-be 11 year old into our home and adopted her 11 months later. Talk about change! The Only child we have had and a crazy ride! some day I’ll write about it – just to get it off my chest! The drugs certainly aren’t working! LOL

My mom had a very short, terminal illness, so we knew the end was coming (and we kept her at home to take care of her). As that day approached, my youngest left for college, so I had the proverbial Empty Nest. Four days later, my mom died, and three weeks after that, my dog died. I felt as though I’d been hit with a sledgehammer.

(But this summer, all 3 of my kids lived with us!! Quite the Full Nest…)
