Girls’ Weekend

Today I’m going on a girls’ weekend. It’s been far too long (years) since I’ve been on one of these. This isn’t a true girls’ weekend. We’re only going for 24 hours. But I’ll take what I can get, you know?

My friend and critique partner Tina suggested this little outing. (Remember I blogged about her last month?) She’s in her third trimester with baby #4, so who can blame her for wanting some time away before the little guy makes his appearance? I thought this would be a good opportunity for Ultimate Sportsfan and our little one to have some daddy-daughter bonding time.

And what do you know? My parents have a house they’re not using this weekend. It has a pool and is far enough away that we can’t be called back for any minor emergencies.

I’m all packed and ready to go, and not in the least worried because Tina told me to brush up on my baby delivering skills. This weekend is all about relaxation, so that baby will just have to wait until his due date. I plan to read, sleep, sit out by the pool, and read some more.

What about you? Do you have any fun summer plans? If you’d like to take a book along, I’m giving away a copy of my latest, THE MAKING OF A DUCHESS, to one randomly selected person who comments. And don’t forget every comment also enters you in the Sony e-reader contest!

my summer is about dancing. not me dancing, but my 8 yr old’s. she’s in a dance company and they’re doing their recital at the end of June, followed by the nationals competition in July. so between those two events, there is lots of practice… and lots of driving around for me. i guess it’s a good thing I don’t mind watching all the kids dance.

I don’t really have any summer plans other then staying home and doing some reading! Now last summer I took a girls weekend. My sister, my niece and I went and spend a long weekend with younger sister, who is single and we had a ball on our weekend away.

My mom is coming down to visit for a couple weeks next month (a somewhat annual event the past few years). While she’s here we’ll go see a show or concert or two, maybe a little shopping. It’s mainly just a nice time to visit as we don’t get to see each other as much as we use to and gives her a little vacation. Otherwise no plans other than to try to relax and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine.

My summer started early. We just got back a couple of weeks ago from our dream trip to the Greek Islands!

I’m going to the seaside in July… can’t wait… it will be lazy – reading a lot of books – laying on the beach – swimming a little – kind of vacation. I’m so looking forward to it.

I have a lot of birthdays in my family that fall in the Summer, so that’s about the only celebrating I have planned at this point. Always open to invitations, though!

Nothing worked out yet but I would love a little getaway this summer. A beach house where I could take my dogs would be wonderful.

And the baby won’t make an appearance while you’re away because it’s a “girs’” weekend – no boys allowed. ;)

    Have a great time!

    Girls weekend sounds so fun.
My 20th anniversary is in August. Still trying to decide what to do. A few days away sure would be nice.

My summer shall be a boring one. Family and friends are all going on vacation. They will visit anything from Paris, the Beach, China or the Mountains and I….

I will probably spend it on my couch praying there will be a good show on TV. Or in my garden, drinking lemonade wishing I had a good romance novel to read. I’m sure I can find one to make that last bit come true but it will be a lonely summer.

Maybe I can use my free time to make some FUN plans for Autumn!

Nothing special going on here in my house. Summer is pretty much like winter….which involves reading, playing on the computer and watching Netflix DVDs and must-see TV shows!

But, in July, I’ll make my annual summer trip to Michigan to visit my children and attend my family reunion.

I won’t be going anywhere this summer, but I will be busy. My youngest daughter just had baby number 3 so I will be helping with my grandkids for most of the summer. Of course this isn’t any hardship for me, spending time with my grandkids is wonderful. Other than that, it’s hopefully going to be a pretty quiet summer.

sigh. I have 2 small children, so I’ll be staying close to home. Hubby wants to take the kids on a “vacation” though. They won’t even remember it!!!

we’re going to the beach. We spent many years doing both at home vacations and going away with little one’s. Now we have found it’s wonderful vacationing with them in their 20′s, they are fun so I’m looking forward to it! I can’t remember the last time I did a girls weekend but that sound like so much fun, I hope you enjoy it!

I’m reading your comments and packing to go. I don’t need much but choosing which books to take is so hard! I finally decided on Tera Lynn Childs’s FORGIVE MY FINS. A mermaid book seems perfect. So book–check, sunblock–check, wine–check ;-)

My summer plans involve driving my kids to day camp, splashing in the pool with them and weeding my one acre veggie patch as well as being mom to the six ducklings we just bought. And in the few spare moments I get to my self I plan to catch up on my romance reading and dream about beefy guys

sounds like a lot of fun :Ö) I´m afraid being an archaeologist in Iceland the summer is all about digging and surveying. I never take my “summer holiday” until fall. This summer I´m digging a Viking age grave site in the north of Iceland and surveying in the west. My only real personal plan I have this summer is celebrating my first born´s second birthday  I still can not believe he is two already

I hear you on taking what you can get and counting yourself lucky. Since I had kids, 13.5 years ago, the longest I’ve been away from them has been a period of 18 hours.

Best of luck to your friend on delivering her fourth and good luck on it not being with you!

Thank you for the reminder, I want to plan a girls night/sleepover before a good friend leaves town for college in CA. She is working on a second degree. (I hope.)
