What happened to Charlotte?

If you’re a reader of mine chances are you’ve noticed the something is missing in the Robyn DeHart library. I get mail about this at least once a week, the missing book of the Ladies’ Amateur Sleuth Society series. It’s one of those things that happens on occasion in publishing when you switch publishers, books fall through the cracks, series go unfinished and frankly it sucks. For both the readers and us writers. I for one would love to share Charlotte’s story with you. It’s a good one and I still hope (though perhaps naively) that someday that book will be published. But there’s no promising that will happen. I suppose I could do it myself through Kindle and offer an electronic only version, but what about those readers who never think to hop over to an author’s website or join their newsletter?

The identity of the Jack of Hearts has been the subject of many frantic emails from readers. I hear you and man, oh, man do I want to tell y’all. But what if? What if I do get to publish that book, then I’ve shared the big secret? Hmmm….perhaps it doesn’t matter much anymore. I don’t know. What do y’all think? I know that in the future when writing series I’ll be more careful about how I plot any series-wide mysteries so that I know how many books will be in the series. But I can tell you that in Charlotte’s book, Jack is our hero, but you already knew that. And there’s a marriage of convenience and a rollicking good mystery. Someday I hope to share it with all of you.

Have you ever read a series that didn’t quite end? That left you hanging and wanting more?

Be sure to hop on over to Fresh Fiction to enter my Spring Fever contest.

I think that would stink. You’ve had these characters lives in all these books and when someone decides not to take the others, it’s really disheartening. I think it leaves the readers with unanswered questions. I am a huge series reader and this has happened a few times which continues to make me mad.

Ohhhhh Robyn please please please please pretty please publish it yourself?!! I´m still heartbroken over not getting to read Charlotte´s story  I have a pretty good idea about who Jack is but ohh without confirmation it´s just :| “sigh” not the same. And I´m still waiting for Shana´s story about Ashley and Shirley Karr´s story about Nick

LOL, Robyn! I think you should work Charlotte’s story into a completely different niche with GCP. And solve all the questions there!

I’m with Margo! Make it work, Robyn! As for your question, I can’t think of anything off the top of my head. I know there was a great outcry for Mrs. Bridgerton to marry in Julia Quinn’s great series, but I think she decided against it…not quite sure. Anyway, it’s a compliment that so many people want another story! Go for it!

Um, yeah. My Misadventures in Matrimony series. I get an email about once a week about my 4th book too. I finally put a letter on my website.

Heck, I’m her critique partner and I’m missing Charlotte’s story too! I even know how it’s supposed to end and I still miss it!

And it’s happened with other series too. There’s a Barbara Delinksky sequel from … oh, about twenty years ago that I’m still waiting for. I have not yet lost faith that she’ll abandon her career as a NYT bestselling author to write one last book for Harlequion Temptation, a line that doesn’t exist anymore!

And I hate when it happens to tv shows too! Anyone watch the Sarah Connor Chronicles? (I mean, apparently not, since the ratings were horrible–but the show was great) The last season had this horrible/fantastic cliffhanger that mucked up the entire Sarah Connor universe. And the show is now over … If this gig as a romance writer doesn’t pan out I may resort to writing fan fiction for Sarah Chronicles, just ’cause I want to know what happens!

Margo, you’ve already got my wheels rolling this morning thinking of new ways I can envision the story….hmmmm…..

Solveig, you’re so sweet. I know it’s frustrating, but hopefully the new series is filling the gap a bit.

Shana, I have some info about it in a faq section, but I still get emails about it all the time. Which I’m so not complaining about. I feel bad for the readers, but it’s a nice compliment to be in demand.

There ought to be a law, really. The publishers should have to finish the series!

Our biggest TV aggravation was when they canceled Moonlight. A huge finale, with this master list of vampires in the wrong person’s hands–and nothing. Oh, if I had a spare million dollars laying around…I’d produce that show myself. :)

Late to the party here..but please..Charlotte? Would pathetic puppy dog eyes help? Self publish, anyway to get it done would be wonderful.

In the meantime, I’ll start on the rest of your books…
