Do the Olympics have you hooked?

2010
Last night, for the first time I spent some time watching the Winter Olympics. I saw the Super G downhill and some ice dancing. We don’t have cable or satellite and there was nothing else on television. That’s why I watched the events.

That attitude is a far cry from the the last Summer Olympics. I watched those events All. The. Time. Perhaps I just like the summer sports more than the winter ones. I also think the Summer Olympic coverage was more…interesting.

I’d like to know your thoughts. Are you enjoying the Olympics this year? Have you watched any of the events?

I haven’t watched at all. Just too tired and too busy. If you read my last post, you know why!

I enjoy both The Winter and Summer Olympics. From Vancouver I have watched ice-hockey, cross-country skiing, ski jumping and figure skating among others. The only problem is the time difference: we in Finland are -10 hours to Vancouver time  So the skiing (morning in Vancouver) starts here around 20.00-23.00. This morning I watched the hockey game between Finland and Germany between 7.00 to 9.00.
Our only (so far) medal came from Men´s Half Pipe! The young man who got silver, is a national hero now…

My family and I also watched some of the downhill skiing and ice dancing last night. That’s the first TV coverage of the Winter Olympics that we’ve watched. It’s not that we’re uninterested, just busy.

We haven’t watched any of it. We’re suffering from Tivo malfunctions at the moment
But I’ve been meaning to buy some figure skating from Apple TV for the girl to watch, ’cause I think she’d totally love that. I just haven’t yet. And, of course, then she’d beg for lessons I’m sure. And we’re like a hour away from the nearest ice skating rink, so there’s no way I’m doing that. … Hm. Maybe I shouldn’t download any after all.

Heck ya!!!! Go Canada! Its on our own soil, and we are so excited to host. I’m up late for the duration so we can see some of the great moments like last nights Skeleton win.

We’re proud of our country and our athletes!

We are watching the Olympics at our house and, even though we like the skating the best, my daughter and I seem to enjoy whichever sport is on at the time. That Skeleton “thing” makes me a little nervous. Whew.
I’m not much into Summer Olympics, but loved.Loved.LOVED Shawn Johnson—a home state girl–Iowa!

That is so funny  I watched the super G last night too!!! But what I was wondering the whole time is “why in the name of Mike do people take part in sports where they can kill themselves at any moment?!!!” and why oh why does icehockey have to involve knocking the brains out of the opponent even when he does not even have the puck??? oh oh ! and is it really fair that the guys who ski last, like for example in the super G last night, have to go through a much tougher and more dangerous course than the ones that go first???? Just some of my wonderings :Öþ Your thoughts?

We’re watching sporadically – enjoying all of what we see. But yeah – I hear you Solveig about the dangerous sports! Geez – I thought there was an extreme-sports-olympics!

Oh I’m totally addicted. I have been missing my regular shows like Idol and Survivor to watch everything. Skating, downhill, snowboarding, speed skating, luge and even curling lol.

I’m the complete opposite, Cindy. I love the winter Olympics and find them much more exotic and beautiful than the summer Olympics. Vancouver looks so gorgeous! I’ve never been, but heck, I want to!

You know Cindy, I don’t really watch much of the Winter Olympics. I tend to watch some of the summer ones for track and field events. When I was younger, I used to watch them all the time, but I just have the time to devote to it all now. Plus, with the winter ones, I don’t really enjoy doing any of the sports they have. Me and the cold weather are not the best of friends, so I don’t ski, skate, slalom, snowboard, etc. It is just too cold. What is strange though, is that I love looking at snow, from inside a warm cocoon of course. It is a beautiful thing, but being outside in it…brrrr…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.
