What qualifies as fast food?

It used to be that fast food consisted of hamburgers or some other fried or grilled meat/fish, fries or rings, and a choice of soft drinks or shakes. The only other option was pizza, which may or not be a fast food.

I’m not the person to ask, since I enjoy pizza any time of the day.  Yes, that includes cold at breakfast.

Now we have a whole lot of options from seafood to pastas. Some claim they aren’t really fast food. Hmm, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.

The general ambiance of hard plastic chairs, plastic trays, drinks served in paper cups and your food wrapped in paper/in a plastic basket/on a paper or plastic plate sorta lumps them all together in my opinion.

Some are reputed to be healthy. And maybe they are.

Subway sorta grabbed the honor first when overweight Jared lost a lot of weight eating their sandwiches. My hat’s off to him for the weight loss, and for not hurling because he ate the same thing everyday for months. Or was it a year?

Either way I’m impressed because I get bored with one-day old leftovers.  Unless it’s pizza.

In our office, the gourmet sandwich places get a lot of our employees’ business. For me, the portions are way oversized and still way too salty. They are emergency food to me – places I hit when it’s the quickest option.

What’s your take on fast food? Do you shun them? Have a favorite place or food that you find yourself craving?

I don’t eat fast food. I use to eat it a couple times a week, I’m in my late 30′s and my doctor informed me my cholesterol was icky. With 30 pounds gone and no fast food, my cholesterol is great. ONLY PROBLEM…I have four teenage boys who love it.
Fast food: how can I help you?
Me: I need one number 4 with a coke, two number 7′s with coke, two number 6′s with a coke (I scan the menu for me)
    Fast food: Is that all?
Me: errr….no, can you add a side salad with no dressing?

YUCKY!! I do miss those fries!!

It’s been years since I had fast food. We go to a nice Italian/pizza place once in awhile, but I don’t consider it fast food. To me, FF is found at burger joints – and, well, I don’t eat burgers. I’d rather make a sandwich at home and take it along…

Though I have what I call a “Poor White Trash palate” (that orange macaroni and cheese from a box is a special fave), I don’t do fast food. Except Burger King milkshakes when I’m on the road. Those suckers are great.

Good for you losing the weight and changing those numbers, Tonya. We’d likely be a healthier and thinner country is all fast food was eliminated!

Margo, I can’t remember the last time I ate a fast food burger. Ick.

Kristen, I hear those milkshakes call to me often. I resist thanks to a milk intolerance. The pain isn’t worth the brief pleasure!

I’m not so much for fast-food either, but I do admit to loving a local favorite here in TX – Whataburger. They have great chicken sandwiches where they actually use the breast of the chicken. But we don’t eat it often, usually just if we’re on the road. And I do have a fondness for Taco Bell – goes back all the way to high school, but I don’t let myself go anymore.

I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t eat most fast food. I do like Subway and once in a while a yogurt parfait from McDonalds.

I stay away from all the hamburger fast food places but my husband likes to stop at the local bars once in a while and pick up sandwiches, pizza, and worst of all wings lol. I like that I don’t have to cook those nights but if it were left to me, I’d never do it.

Never heard of them Robyn, but Wendys makes a grilled chicken breast sandwich that isn’t bad. Still enough food in one for two people.

Shana, I think Subway probably has the healthiest options. Yum on the parfait.

What’s with all the wing places! Catslady a local sports bar in town always advertises special nights for them–take out or in. I’ve resisted easily because I don’t like them.

I try to limit my fast food consumption to once a month. Then it’s not too damaging. Have you seen commercials for Taco Bell’s “Drive-thru Diet”? A woman is talking about losing weight, but not wanting to give up fast food. I had to wonder if she was Jared’s sister… and I laughed because the first time I saw the commercial, I misheard her and thought she said, “Dry Food Diet.” Woof.

I love fast food. I don’t eat burgers of any kind, but I love Mickey D’s Fries and their chicken menu. At Wendy’s I like their spicy chx and chili. I don’t really eat at BK, and I love KFC…the theme is chx. I love it so much. I don’t go out to get ff often; only when my bball team has an away game and we have dinner on the road. Oh, does Chinese count as ff? I love that too, and I generally eat the same thing over and over and over.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.
