Farmville…

So do you play this game? Or maybe some other game like it on the internet? I do and I love it. Its so funny to me that I’m not setting a time to be back on my farm. And to be honest that’s a little bit frightening. The farm is not real but I like harvesting my crops and going to my neighbors farms and seeing what they are doing. In a way its the same as writing a book.

On the farm I started with just a few coins and a small patch of land. On the page at a start of a book I’m starting with a premise and a couple of characters I think are intriguing.

On the farm, I plant and harvest and replant and reharvest making my farm bigger and earning more coins each day. On the page, I write and then I rewrite, I add characters and find the depths of the conflicts for my hero and heroine which is way more rewarding than coins.

Though my book will end with the story there is always something new on Farmville. And I like that going back to a familiar world in the same way that I really like writing a series so I can keep going back to the same characters and checking in on them.

What about you? Do you like a game on the internet and do you think it relates to anything in your life?

Happy Reading!
Katherine

I am already on Facebook way too much. I don’t accept any type of add ons there. BUT when I need a 10 minute break from writing, I do get on POGO and play the bowling game. It’s mindless and I can think while I play. If I did farmville, I would be HOOKED!!

I shy away from computer games…except Scrabble. That’s my reward for a long day’s work.

I am WAY too susceptible to whiling away time on the computer – it’s a weakness I’m trying to curb this year! But it can be soothing to the nerves… that’s for sure.

I barely have time to check in here, so no games for me. It does look like fun, though!

I think the thing I like about it is that you plant your crops and then can’t do anything until they need to be harvested. So four hours from now I check back. It’s a little more manageable than solitaire which I was majorly addicted to and would spend hours playing online!

I really don’t play computer or internet games much but I have heard of Farmvill. My niece showed it to me one day. She does some kind of fish tank thing. Most of the time when I am on the computer I am checking out the blogs and such!

    Katherine,
I was just working on my farm in Farmville before coming over to read the latest Jaunty Quill post! I really enjoy the game — although I do get annoyed with the whole Farmville dollar thing and that you have to pay real money to get the cool stuff! I’ve always liked simulation games, and I think it has to do with a “day in the life” concept. That certainly relates to writing because you’re spending a day (or several months!) in the life of another person and it’s both an escape and a fulfilling diversion.
I will have to find you on Facebook, and add you as my neighbor!

Soliel; I’d love to be your neighbor in Farmville. I don’t like having to use real money for it either. I like earning the coins and sending gifts though.

I’m on Facebook, but decided long ago not to get involved with the games. If I did that, I wouldn’t get any writing done! :) I’m a slow enough writer as it is. Farmville does sound like fun, though.

Yes Farmville is one of my weaknesses, along with Treasure Madness  I just upgraded my farm to a Plantation today and I soo agree with you Soleil about the FV dollar, I would not spend my own hard earned money on something like that even if my life depended on it! But I love the fact that you can milk your cows, pick eggs, and the calfs are so cute :Ö)

I have an extremely obsessive personality when it comes to games (and books) lol. I’m very competitive (I don’t have to win but I love the competition, even if it’s with myself). At the moment the game I play most is Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. It’s a timed one minute games but I can play by the hours!
