If the shoe fits…

cowboy boot(raising hand here in a hopefully  crowded room of shoe afficianados)

I am Jan Kenny and I have a shoe (or is that footwear?) addiction.

It’s the truth.  I’ve had this obsession all my life.  I simply love shoes, love shopping for shoes and boots, love the smell of leather when I walk into a shoe store.  Love the feel of smooth quality leather shaping to my tootsies in a caress that tells me they were made for me.

I love buying shoes.  Period.

When I hit thirty and I had boxes of shoes everywhere, I admitted I had a serious addiction.  I had shoes that I just bought because I could.  Shoes I rarelthongy wore.  Shoes that I never wore!

I had a serious problem with impulse shoe shopping.  So I made a New Year’s resolution to curb it.  And like many resolutions, it was forgotten the moment I walked into a store and saw THE shoes that just called out to me.   Year after year.

I realized the error of my ways.  I stopped making resolutions.  :)

Yep, I am a lost cause for footwear.  Good shoes, sexy shoes, sturdy boots, take-me-boots, slouch-around-the-house sandals and killer stilletoes.

Oh, mercy.  I love ‘em all.  Enclosed toe/heel or barely there.  Boots to the ankle peekaboo heelsor above the knee.  Lined with fleece or silk.  Bring them on.

Seriously I’m a sucker for peek-a-boo pumps or especially harder to find slings or heels.  As far as heels go, I can manage three inches.  Used to handle more, but well, age and all…

If they are on sale, I’d buy them.  I don’t need them.  Don’t have a reason to buy them.

But if they catch my eye and they have my size, they are mine.  And that size thing is probably my saving grace.  Maybe another reason why I’m always hunting for shoes/boots?

Well, I have to have a GOOD excuse.

Oh, do I have one!  My great great (maybe another great?) grandfather from Ireland was a cobbler, who came to America to ply his trade in Haverhill, MA, one of the shoe manufacturing capitals way back in the late 1800s.

That love of shoes is in the blood.  Right?

Well, maybe a stretch.  At any rate I do love good fitting, good looking footwear.  I’ve given up curbing my addiction and decided to continue on just because I wanna.

Sorry, but I’m having trouble loading the shoe pix that I wanted.  So go browse Zappos.com.  :)   Yep, spreading the joy…

How about you?  Do you have an addiction to a special something?  Is it near impossible for you to walk away from what you love when it’s on sale?

I’m giving away an autographed copy of A Cowboy Christmas to one commenter on this post.   Winner will be announced Dec 20.

I’m one of those weird women without an addiction to shoes… chocolate, on the other hand, is another issue. I just went and counted. In my pantry right now, I’ve got five different kinds of baking chocolate, three kind of cocoa, two kinds of gourmet chocolate candies (plus Halloween candies), and a mega-sized jar of Nutella. Maybe I should seek help.

If all my disposable income goes towards something does that make it an addiction? If so, books is mine. I have a HUGE pile of TBR books, yet, I’m always buying more.

I’m right there with you, Janette. My favorites…the grey suede three inch heels with the flower on the toe (I know!) and of course, my trademark 20-year-old battered brown leather cowboy boots. Oh, and my red Converse high tops! And also, those sparkly ivory kitten heels…um, I better stop now. I’m getting the urge to go to Nordstrom’s again.

Jeans! I’m a total jean-aholic. If their on sale, in my size I consider it a sign they should go home with me!

It’s embarrassing, but I love to buy socks. I like funky socks, in fact I’m wearing socks now with monkeys on them. I like the idea that I may be dressed for work but underneath I’m iwld.

I would have to say the thing I buy the most of is books. I do like to go shoe shopping though because you never have to worry about shoes not fitting because you ate to much over the holidays.

Books, including cookbooks and magazines, yarn (as I knit) and chocolate. Let’s just say I’m glad I’m able to get at least some of my addictions by swapping stuff. It’s a bit cheaper that way.

I used to have the shoe craze. When I first met my husband, I had about 30-40 pair. He was astonished, to say the least. But as my nursing career progressed, my shoe obsession diminished – I only cared about foot *comfort.*

Now, my obsession is books. Love them. In fact, we just bought another bookcase for the overflow…

Books, books and more books. I just can’t help myself. I love having them around me (and boy are they lol). My husband says one day he’s going to come home and I’ll be buried under them after one of my shelves has let loose lol. I bought 13 just today!!!!!

Rachie, I love the sock obsession! That is so unique. And monkey socks???? Wow. Love the secret wild thang too. :)

These “obessions” do get pricey, Minna. I went through a knitting phase years ago and still — still — have yarn in tubs. We won’t take about the sewing phase and all the fabric I found lately. *sigh*

But the shoe thing and the book thing have been the only constants. Like that’s a good excuse. *snort*

Margo, I work in medical too and understand the need for comfort, but that hasn’t stopped me. There are so many need professional shoes out there!!!

LOL, catslady. I’ve been accused of the same with my books. Will it stop me? Heck no!

Well aside from the obvious, books, I am a candle lover so I am always picking up candles. Won’t let myself go into Yankee Candles anymore, I could drop a bundle that I don’t have. My 4 year old granddaughter is a shoe-aholic. She already has more shoes and boots than I do.

My girlfriend has a shoe addiction. She has alway had shoes everywhere! With me it fabric! If its on sale I can’t pass it up. Along with the fabric its the books so I kind of got fabric and books all over the house. I do some quilting and you just got to have your stash. Then when I go to make a quilt I have to buy more fabric because what you have doesn’t blend with what you want to make. So its back to the fabric store.

Ladies, my addiction is shower gels  When I go shopping I just have to make tour on cosmetics to see if there is anything new; there usually is. It is a cheap addiction, but really embarrasing one. Once I came home with six new bottles… But I never run out of shower gels…

    Another one is books, definitely.

I love cosmetics. I can’t pass by a Sephora without going in. I love checking out the makeup brushes and testing eye shadow colors.

Count me in among those with a serious book addiction! I hope I don’t end up buried under them someday, but there are so many that it’s certainly possible ;) Shoe are cute, but I have no knack for choosing them, so I must leave that to others with better taste!

Serenissima, that’s a very interesting addiction. I love a good shower gel.

I’ve heard about Sephora, Jane. Very nice.

Fedora, I can relate with the buried under books thing. I have a lot of novels, and lots of research books. My floorboards groan.
