Holiday Shopping

This morning I got caught with my pants down and didn’t get the JQ blog up in time. Normally, I have my blogs done early because they’re on my calendar. I suppose it’s the time of year. I’ve spent the past three days driving all over town, shopping, snatching toys out of the hands of other desperate mothers and dashing for the check out line. (Okay, it hasn’t been quite that bad.)

The point is, I’ve barely been near my computer, let alone checking my calendar. So it was this morning before I realized I needed to blog.

Why, you may wonder, in this age of digital wonder was I driving all over town instead of ordering on line like a civilized person? Last year, I got burned ordering on line. A gift I ordered on December 2nd didn’t arrive until mid-February. It was something for my mother and I’d talked my sister and my dad into going in on it. So on December 23rd, I was driving around town (okay, to the jewelry store three miles from my house) desperately looking for a replacement gift. It worked out. She loved the replacement.

But this year, I wasn’t willing to risk it. I decided I’d rather have the stress of facing the crowds than the stress of waiting all month for packages to arrive. But of course, there was one crucial item I couldn’t find locally, so it’ll be arriving in the next three to five business days. I hope.

What about you? Are you an on-line shopper or a local shopper? Which is more stressful or more fun? Do you have any shopping horror stories? That wasn’t you I swiped the toddler safari truck from, was it?

Oh, I’m an online shopper all the way. I even order gift cards online! The other day I had 8 packages sitting outside my door. I’m just waiting on one more gift, but I’ve been in the position where something I ordered wasn’t going to arrive in time. Not a good feeling…

Emily it was ME you swiped the toddler safari truck from!! Now, my poor husband will have nothing for Christmas – that’s my shopping horror story. Just kidding! ;-)

I’d do all my shopping on line if I could. Knock on wood, but I’ve always had great luck with it. The problem this year is I simply don’t know what to get anyone. My daughter, who usually has a a mile-long must-have-or-I’ll-just-die list, is surprisingly undecided about Christmas presents this year. The hubby is always difficult to buy for. He’s a man who wants or needs nothing within our budget. And the others…Well, perhaps it’s because I’ve been on deadline and not really in shopping mode. I’d better get myself in gear!

We do both! Shopping in the stores is more stressful for me. Although we ordered my sons Christmas one year and it didn’t show up until a few days before Christmas but on line UPS said it had been delivered. We called them and it showed up on my front porch about Midnight. Never figured this one out.

So far I still go out and battle the crowds. I’m a touchy, feely need to see type shopper lol. My daughter did as much as she could online and guess whose house all the packages are being sent to lol. Every time I answer the door for Mr. UPS guy, I wish I had done it that way!

I shop online all the way. My last gift was bought online December 1st and delivered by the 4th but then again I buy for immediate family only. My advice is to buy early online or not:)

I’m more of an online shopper especially during the crazy holiday shopping season. There are always good deal online and I love the free shipping. You don’t even have to lug the stuff home.

I do both – but I ran into a weird snafu today. I made an online order, using my credit card. Then I ate lunch, packed up my laptop and the galleys for my May book and left the house for my usual afternoon at Starbuck’s. I had one place to stop before I started my afternoon’s work, and when I got there, I saw that my purse was open.

I never leave my purse open, so I knew something was up. I hadn’t left the house all morning, so I wasn’t worried that someone had gotten into it. Turns out I left my wallet (with credit card) on the desk where I had done my computer ordering. I keep my money in a separate compartment, so I had cash on me, and the whole thing will be a non-event if I get home without being stopped by the police for something. Got to watch my speed! Plus, I need to remember to put the wallet back after ordering!

I managed to avoid all shopping, of the retail or the e variety. Made for a nice day.
Margo, I hope you made it home safely, sans drivers license. That always makes me nervous.
And, Nancy, sorry about your husband’s toddler safari truck. Maybe you could order it on-line? ;-)
