I know, it’s not even December yet. I should be blogging about what to do with turkey leftovers or crazy family stories. But for me, the Christmas season starts at midnight Thanksgiving night. Yesterday evening I started decorating the house (don’t have the tree yet) and the kids and I are decoratiing our gingerbread house this afternoon. In short, I’m ready to dive headfirst into the season I love best.
All of which means, I’m ready to read some Christmas stories. My all time favorite Christmas Romance is Mary Balogh’s Under the Mistletoe. It’s a collection of five novellas. One is new for this anthology, the other four are recycled from previous collections. When the book first came out in 2006, I was relatively new to the Mary Balogh party, so I hadn’t read any of the previously published novellas. All of the novellas are delightful and fun. And like all Mary Balogh, emotionally complex, even though in this case the stories are short.
As soon as I finish the book I’m working on, I plan to take a little break and get some reading done. I may tackle some of the Twilight books or I might dig back into the Under the Mistletoe and reread those. Or do you have something wonderful and Christmasy to recommend?

I do enjoy a Christmas anthology this time of year. It puts me in the holiday mood, and the stories are just the right length. With so many additional activities going on, it’s nice to have some short stories I can sink my teeth into, rather than giving up on reading at all. I’ll have to look for the Mary Balogh anthology, Emily – thanks for the rec!

Normally I don’t read anthologies but I started one over Thanksgiving and it is a good idea since I have less time to read at the moment. I will look for Mary Balogh’s.

Love the new website, Emily! I like A Christmas Carol by Dickens. It’s not a romance, but it puts me in the holiday mood.

I read Jaunty Quill Cindy Kirk’s Merry Christmas Cowboy and it’s a sweet, charming Christmas story. Thanks for posting about Mary Balogh’s anthology. I’ll look for it too.

I just got out A Christmas Ball anthology by Jennifer Ashley, Emily Bryan and Alissa Johnson to start reading. I read one several years ago called Five Golden Rings, by Constance O’Banyon which was very good. I usually reread it every year but haven’t gotten around to it this year.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is mine…especially the cartonn Dr. Seuss did with Chuck Jones back in the 60s. But I loved Cindy’s Christmas cowboy book, too…there’s something really satisfying about a Christmas romance!

Emily, I’m a Balogh fan too and have never seen this anthology. Thanks for the heads up! I’m getting this for Christmas.
Also on my list is The Heart of Christmas which has novellas by Mary Balogh, Nicola Cornick and Courtney Milan.
