Music is a part of our lives.
When we’re driving in the car listening to the radio helps break the monotony. When we exercise, a good strong beat helps us keep up the pace. Sometimes when we’re sad, a song can either lift our mood or bring us even further down.
Occasionally when I’m writing a particular book, a song will speak to me. It’s not like I go looking for particular song to go with a particular book, they usually just sneak up on me.
When I was writing When She Was Bad, it was a Keith Urban song, Tonight I Wanna Cry . Right now I’m in the process of writing Marrying John Doe, the second book in my RX For Love trilogy set in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I’m about 2/3 of the way done and it didn’t have a song. Then, I’m driving one morning and a song comes on the radio–Come Back to Me by David Cook.

This is the perfect song because the lyrics are an uncanny reflection of one of the pivotal scenes in the book.
I bet you dollars to donuts (I’m not sure what that phrase really means but I’ve always wanted to use it) that you have a song. One that you and your boyfriend/husband share, one that you exercise to or one that picks you up when you’re feeling down. I’d love to know what it is….so could you share??

I don’t know about ONE song, but my husband and I have a favorite for every holiday or occasion (I guess when you’ve been marriee as long as we have, it happens!) And my trusty old iPod makes it easy to remember which songs are our favorites.

Our song is Feels So Good (Feelin’ Good Again) by Robert Earl Keen. I don’t even like country music, but we heard it on one of our first dates and it stuck. We danced to it at our wedding.

I really agree with you. One that pops into my mind immediately is “I’ll be watching you” by Bryan Adams. It’s my boyfriend’s and mine song, it always transports me into the loveee mood
And my exercise song is “Wild Boys”, I just feel alive and like I can do anything while I’m listening to it.

Ups! It’s Sting’s song actually, not B. Adams’. Sorry, I always confuse them two

Margo,
A favorite song for every holiday? Wow! I’d love to hear an example, say, this year’s Thanksgiving tune?
Shana,
Hearing it on your first date, then dancing to it at your wedding…how utterly romantic.
Fran,
I’m going to have to check out Wild Boys. My favorite exercise song is “It’s Raining Men.”

Our song is Never My Love by the Association – they still play it on the radio more than 40 years later

Cindy, I read your post and turned to McIrish and said, “We don’t have a song! We need a song!” We did dance to a really sweet song at our wedding…Overjoyed by Stevie Wonder. But I can’t say it’s a song we hear that often. So. Off to find us a song!
