Young love. The memories.
The nostalgia of that cute, tanned boy with the fast boat that summer at the lake… Or the sweet boy at camp with the science kit, the nerdy glasses and the endearing smile… Or the smoking hot boy across the tracks with the motorcycle, the fake ID and the Dean Winchester grin…
Sometimes nostalgia is blissful in a sigh-worthy, “ahhhhhh…” kind of way. And sometimes it slices and cuts with recrimination over the one who got away.
For The Earl’s Pleasure is the latter sort of book. A story where a decade in the past everything went horribly wrong for two people on the verge of adulthood and they’ve been trying to recover (and forget their other half) ever since. When extreme circumstances occur, a narrow chance at reconciliation, redemption and a love that has always blazed hotly is set into motion. Of course, sometimes that means skirting the angel of death…some people just can’t get a break…
Any nostalgia for something fun in your youth? During your coming of age? Hailing Judy Blume?
Thinking about a summer fling or a fun flirtation?
For The Earl’s Pleasure releases into the world today! I’ll pick one commenter (at random!) and send a $10 Amazon gift certificate your way in celebration.

Ah, yes. I remember reading those Judy Blume novels and other teen romances. I just knew I would date the captain of the football team.
But then in high school I wore a dog collar and had spiky hair. I think I scared him away!
The book sounds great, Anne. I love the cover–it has that nostalgia feel.

Yeah to the new release!
Me and summer. . . well, the only time I actually had something exciting (at least within a 15 year period) is when I went to Florida by myself for three weeks to visit my Aunt and Uncle. Taught myself to swim (which probably looked horrible to watch, but the idea was to simply get from point a to b, not the olympics LOL). Just wished they believed in using the a/c during the night. Sigh. LOL Guess this was summer between Junior and Senior year. . . haven’t done much since then, just maybe day things. Especially to the bookstore!

Nostalgia plagues me everyday, especially all summer. When I was 20 a girlfriend and I went to Lake George for the weekend. This was a revelation to me since we rarely travelled and the beach, fun and boys were out there. We met a couple of guys who we went to movies with, rides in their car, and walks along the beach. Unforgettable and special. Later I heard another girlfriend had met them during the summer at another resort. Why not!

Congrats on your new release! I can’t say much about nostalgic for me. Although sometimes I would love to go back to my early twenties and make a few changes and then see how my life would be today! Maybe even to some of those teen parties that I went to.

I read the entire Judy Blume collection, too. I remember one summer I was supposed to be doing some chore or other but was hiding out in the stairwell reading Dorothy Gilman’s “A Nun In the Closet” instead. Mom was (ahem) upset when she caught me and ripped the book in half. I did the chore and finished reading both halves of the (excellent, funny) book, and years later got hooked on her Mrs. Pollifax series.

Congratulations on your new book! I remember summer as a time of running barefoot in our bathing suits from one house to another to jump in each other’s pools.

I never read Judy Blume. Well before my V.C. Andrews phase hit around 8th grade, my grandmother sent me all the Nancy Drews a few at a time over the years. Those were the ones with the bright yellow covers. When I grew out of them, I sold the set to a bookshop specializing in mysteries. I wish I’d packed them away instead.

This book sounds so good.
When I was in hogh school, my mother belonged to the Book of The Month Club and I remember reading all of those books. That is where I learned to like the romance book. Also mysteries.
