TV Shows that I’m sure gonna miss…

Okay, I admit it. I am a television junkie. Some people are crazy for movies. I’m that way about TV shows. Maybe it’s because I can edit/revise my current WIP (work-in-progress) while I watch the tube. Whatever the reason, there are some shows I REALLY like (such as The Mentalist and Ghost Whisperer) and others that I’ll definitely watch if I happen to be flipping channels and discover that they’re on.
sam who
Samantha Who was one of those shows. I like the dialogue between the characters and the growth that Samantha showed. Unfortunately it’s been axed for next season.

Here are some of the shows that have not been renewed:
4Real
According to Jim
Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader
Battlestar Galactica
Boston Legal
Deal or No Deal
Dirty Sexy Money
Do Not Disturb
Don’t Forget the Lyrics!
Eli Stone
ER
Everybody Hates Chris
The Ex List
Guiding Light–Though I didn’t ever watch it, after 58 seasons I hate to see it go
In Harms’ Way
Kath and Kim–This got trashed by the critics, but I liked it
Knight Rider–Started out good, then something happened to the writing…
Kyle XY–only watched once but seemed to have potential
Late Night with Conan O’Brien
Lipstick Jungle– Thumbs down from me on this one
My Own Worst Enemy
Pushing Daisies
Reaper
Samantha Who–Like I said, I thought this was cute. Sad to see it go
The Shield
Stargate Atlantis
The Unit–A little violent at times, but I really like this show
Without a Trace–Always watched this when it was on

How about you? Which shows will YOU miss? And have I forgotten to include any favorites of yours that haven’t been renewed?

This week I’ll draw TWO winners from everyone who comments. They’ll win a copy of my March Silhouette Special Edition, Claiming the Rancher’s Heart. If you already have it, we’ll figure something out :)

I’m still mourning the loss of my favorite show ever, Cindy. Arrested Development. I own the DVDs, but one can only watch the same shows so many times. Sigh.

I have to say I’m glad that Deal or No Deal has gone the way of the dinosaur. Never got the appeal of that one…

Well, I’m not a big tv watcher — hmm, well, the tv is always on, but it’s usually glued to the news (heck even the CNN bug is burned into the screen! LOL), so I mean I’m not a big show watcher. . .

But I do watch Guiding Light, and will miss it (and should someone else pick it up, they better not change much plus be on a channel I actually have). . .

and I just finished watching last night’s Tonight Show, and ended up bawling like a baby. LOL So, September better get here quick! :)

But a show I wish was canceled but has one more season was Smallville. What the heck was the point of that season finale? Sure wasn’t much of a cliffhanger to me!

Well, since I’m not a regular watcher of anything, the DVDs of full seasons are always open to me! :-)

    Lois,

I went to a conference a year or two ago and they had one of the producers of Guiding Light. It sounded like they were all so close, like a family. I’m sure this cancellation has been devastating to them.

    Kristan,

I have a couple of DVDs for shows that were cancelled years ago that I loved SO MUCH. Hmmm, maybe I should figure out why they were so appealing and try to capture that in a book?

I’m with you on Deal or No Deal. Was I the ONLY ONE who wanted to scream at the contestants that $300,000 was a LOT OF MONEY to turn down???

I liked Samantha Who too. Her family and friends were a riot. Deal or No Deal was fun at first but then the contestants got on my nerves too much so I haven’t watched it in a while.

I’m still pouting that CBS cancelled Moonlight at the end of the ’08 season. Glad I have my copy of the DVD!

Other programs that will not be renewed for Fall ’09 & I’ll miss are:

The Unit (they didn’t wrap this one up good enough to not renew it! Dang!)
Life (another that wasn’t wrapped up good enough at the end)
    Eleventh Hour
    Life on Mars
    Boston Legal (excellent program IMO)
ER (I guess it was time to go after 15 years)

Another program I like but I don’t think it’s coming back is Flashpoint.

The programs I really love are still running: CSI & CSI:NY; Law & Order, L&O:SVU and L&O:CI; NCIS; Numb3rs, Criminal Minds

    eap,
I used to feel that way about One Life to Live and General Hospital. I hated to miss and episode.

    Chey,
Boston Legal always touched the hot spots of current events. I’ll miss that show, too.

    Karen H,
We’re kindred spirits…I have my copy of Moonlight on DVD too and all the shows you listed that you liked are my favs too!

Back to Moonlight, I still wish Josh would have lived, even as a vampire. I really liked the guy.

    Maureen,
    Yeh, another Samantha Who fan!

    Margo,
    Obviously you’re a DVD junkie! :)

I’m not a regular watcher of anything either, but I will miss Everybody Hates Chris. I don’t even know when it’s on anymore. The network moved it to some obscure time, so no wonder it’s not renewed.

For GL, I’ve only been watching for 10 years, since Another World was canceled (I followed one actor to GL, David Andrew MacDonald since I just loved him there LOL). . . so while that’s long, it’s not as long as some have. But at present, even if the show wasn’t leaving, I’d be wondering if I would continue watching, because who favorite characters left (Edmund was killed, or was he. . . and rumor has it Jeffrey will be shot and killed), so if it wasn’t for Phillip’s return, not sure I’d still be watching when all was said and done! LOL

“Life” is my favorite show, but NBC canceled it. I’m so mad that they renewed other shows that weren’t as clever and well acted as “Life.”

    Shana,

I think it’s the death knell of most shows when they start moving them around.

    Lois,

I hear you! When those characters we love (or love to hate) are gone, there’s not much incentive to keep watching. :(

    Jane,

I feel that way too…it’s as if the networks don’t even give shows a chance to grow their audiences.

Shows that I’ve loved over the years that have gone off the air: Freaks and Geeks, Arrested Development, Undeclared, My So-Called Life, Pushing Daisies. Why do so many good, quality shows get canceled and garbage gets renewed season after season?

I am really going to miss Boston Legal. I’ve replaced it with Castle though lol. I’ve watched a few of the others on your list but had given up on them a while ago. They really don’t give some shows a chance and on others it upsets me when it doesn’t have closure.

    catslady,

Castle is, in my opinion, one of the best new shows of this season.

Which I never thought I’d say because when I saw the previews, it looked kind of cheesy to me. Boy was I wrong.
