I am so excited to announce that I just signed a 3-book contract with Sourcebooks. I’ll be writing a new historical series, and the first book will be out in June 2010. That book is completed, and it’s tentatively titled Deceiving the Duke. I’m sure that won’t end up being the title, but maybe it has sparked your interest?
I’m not worried about the first book because it’s done, but my second book is due at the beginning of September. That should be plenty of time, except I cannot seem to find any time to write!
I’m still working full-time. It seems like everyone I know is graduating or having a birthday this month. I’ve had house repairs to schedule and supervise. The list goes on and on. I’ve only been under contract 3 weeks, and already I am behind on my page goals.
Any suggestions for carving a few hours out of the day? How do you find time to get things done when you’re super busy?

Congratulations on your new contract! I like working early in the morning, so when I have a deadline and a little time to meet it, I usually get up at 4.30 a.m. and try to do as much as possible. The quiet and solace help me concentrate and in that conditions I work twice as fast. This only works if you are a morning person

I wish I knew. I think I was more organized when I had three little kids and a job. Time pressures *make* you more organized!

Sorry, that I can´t give You any advice for finding more time. Working full-time and writing would be an mission impossible for me; You are a superwoman to do both jobs.

Nope, no time management suggestions. Was never very good at managing my own time let alone telling others how to do it!
I was just making my monthly cruise through my favorite author’s websites to see what’s up. Didn’t see much over there Shana, so decided to stop in at JQ (I’ve been away from the blog for a while). Anyway, look what I find…your news about a new, 3-book contract. This is good news indeed because I was beginning to suffer from Lackashana Syndrom. Such great news! But, such a long time to wait…*sigh*!!

Everyone is getting the news about my contract here first. My website probably won’tbe updated until September. It takes time to get on the designer’s schedule!
Thanks for all the warm congrats!

Congratulations on the new contract, Shana!
That’s great news.
As for time management, I’m much better now that I have kids. I’ve got to work every spare minute though.
Here’s my big tip. Figure out how long it takes you to write a page, if you work fast. For me, it’s fifteen minutes. So I set the timer for fifteen minutes and I know that I’ve got to get a page done. There’s no time to stare off into space trying to think of the perfect word. No time to google Victorian architecture to see if the heroine’s house is really Queen Anne style. You just have to do the page. The good thing about this approach is that then it really only takes me an hour and a half to two hours to do my work for the day. But I spread it out. Even on really busy days you can eek out fifteen minutes here and there.

YAY!! Shana!!! You know how thrilled I am for you!
Just hang on for summer! I know you’ll get loads done then. Also, sometimes it helps to change up the setting. Leave the house and go write at a coffee house.
Hugs,
Sophie

I make a schedule and prioritize things and sometimes I do have to say no to things. Its hard but sometimes I have to do that so I can get what I need done you know.

Congrats on the new contract!
I look forward to your future books. I was wondering though, is the “Misadventures in Matrimony” series officially over?

Hi Jenni! I wouldn’t say that the Misadventures in Matrimony series is officially over. I still hope to write the 4th book, but I’m not holding my breath because it’s pretty unlikely that I’ll be able to any time soon–if ever. But I so appreciate all the support from my readers who always ask about that Ashley’s book.
