Everybody’s got them. Those household jobs that you put off because you can’t stand them. There are many jobs that I don’t really like, but it’s no big deal to do them – like cleaning the bathrooms, soft-mopping the dustbunnies from the hardwood floors – but then there are the jobs I hate.

Like cutting up chicken. I buy boneless chicken breasts, but I usually trim them and package them so that I can pull out just the right amount from the freezer when I’m preparing a meal. But … yuck. Not a pleasant job. (I should go vegetarian like Shana!)

Then there’s putting the clean dishes away from the dishwasher. Granted, I’m fortunate to have a dishwasher, and I shouldn’t complain. But I only run it once a day, and when we have a lot of people here (all 3 kids and company, too) there are lots of clean dishes and silverware to be put away. And the silverware is the worst! No, I don’t think I’d enjoy actually washing and drying the dishes myself, so I put up with this tedious job.

Folding laundry. We have a rule at our house – you don’t just take a full load out of the dryer and dump it in a basket. You have to fold it . Ug – It’s the most boring job on the planet! And of course, there’s a procrastination factor at work here … most everyone can wait it out until somebody folds what’s in the dryer.

Filling the dog food container. We have two big dogs, and we have to mix two different kinds of dog food for these fussy canines. I do this in the basement, then haul the big container upstairs to the kitchen, at least once a week. Then, of course, the result of all that eating — Cleaning up the yard! Ew. (My next dog is going to fit in my purse!)
What’s your least favorite household job? I’m going to pick one responder to send a copy of my January release from Avon – WILD. So come on, fess up!

I hate to do the floors! We have wood laminate floors in our living room, dining room and main hallway and they look lovely when clean, but I HATE to clean them. I even got a Hoover FloorMate which makes it easier, but still.
I don’t enjoy doing dishes, but like you, I do at least one load in the dishwasher a day. But I got Fiestaware for Christmas and now unloading the dishwasher is nice b/c all my dishes are so bright and colorful.
I also hate any kind of yard work or gardening. I love pretty yards, I’m just not a gardener type.
Hey, Margo, I’ll come unload your dishwasher if you load mine.

Margo :Ö) I sooo agree with you. All these jobs you mentioned I hate with a passion XÖþ but worst of all is cleaning dirty pots and pans that can not go into the dishwasher. I always wish I was a witch so I could just snap my fingers :Ö). And that also applies to cleaning the refrigerator, the toilet and cleaning the birdcage. These jobs are the bane of my existence.

Anything to do with raw meat. It’s partly the ick factor and party the fear factor. I can’t help, I’ve been so indoctrinated into believing all those raw meat germs are super dangerous.
My kids have this tower they can stand in beside the kitchen island so they can watch me cook and help out with stuff. It’s great when we’re making cookies or they’re helping to spin the lettuce or tear it up for a salad. But I really have only the one prep area, so any time I’m cutting up raw meat, I’m like a banshee. “No! Don’t touch this! It’s raw chicken!!!”
I’m sure my daughter is going to grow up thinking raw meat is roughly equivalent to nitroglycerine. Even now she probably thinks, “Why do we even have it in the house if it’s that dangerous?”

I hate doing dished b/c I don’t have a dishwasher…when I was looking for apts I went for the ease of being able to do laundry at any time with a washer and dryer in my unit over having a dishwasher…not sure if I made the best deal.

I hate putting the dishes away out of the dish washer and folding the white load of laundry, I think its mateing all of those socks up. I am not sure I hate putting the disher away out of the dish washer, I should be happy I have one because I didn’t have one for years. A while back we didn’t have power and I had to wash them by hand and that was much worse.

So many to pick from. I really, really hate housework. I’m going to say ironing. I use to iron everything – well not quite everything – I remember getting into an argument with this man I worked with because his wife ironed his undershirts and underwear! I drew the line at that!
Oh and I hate cleaning my kitchen drain/strainer – whatever that’s called. I don’t have a garbage disposal (sob) and it’s just so yukky.

My dh does the cooking because I can’t stomach raw meat. In the field or on my plate; don’t want to see it at any stage in between.
I’m not crazy about any of the chores mentioned but I think the hardest is just getting started. Once my hands are dirty and wet, I want to just keep going and get it all done at once. Washing dishes by hand is actually relaxing — all that warm water, a nice view out the window, and no one bothers me because they don’t want to get roped into helping.
Laundry isn’t a big deal, even though we wash diapers, too — dh folds his, I do mine, we trade off on the linens, and I don’t mind folding the baby clothes ‘cuz they’re just so cute.

Cleaning toilets and surrounding area… cat litter box and my all time yucky job is poop patrol in the spring. I live in the country in a snow belt with 1-3 dogs (depending if my daughter is visiting with hers) and come spring I can generally fill a wheelbarrow with soggy dog dirt that got covered by our almost daily snowfalls.

I have to say that clean the oven is not one of my favorites and I know that this is going to sound silly, but I have 3 children and I hate cleaning their rooms. They are 14, 5 and 2 and it seems as though I can clean one go to the other and then go back to the same one I was just in to start all over again. Like some vicious cycle or time warp that follows me. No wonder I’m exhausted at the end of the day…*G*

I don’t mind cleaning the house but unloading the dishwasher is my least favorite. Don’t know why either since I don’t mind picking up after my husband or myself.
Also, I don’t like to iron at all. My hubby is pretty good about ironing but I help him out with it because I feel guilty that he has to do it for me since I hate to iron.
As for my favorite thing of all to do is vacuuming! I just love to vacuum! I would do it everyday if my hubby wouldn’t get so irritated with me. He says that I am going to wear the carpet out. Our carpet is almost 20 years old and still looks great! I basically love to clean my house. I just love how it looks when it is all sparkly and neat!

Least favorite is definitely cleaning the bathrooms–wet dirt and I don’t get along well. I don’t mind dishes, vacuuming, laundry… The rest is sort of gotta-be-done! And while I know that taking care of everything more frequently makes it less tedious, I can’t seem to make myself do it!
