I love everything about going to movies. I love sitting in the theater and watching the previews. I love munching on a small popcorn…okay, with butter added. I love being enveloped by the surround sound. Most of all I like watching the story unfold.
I must admit that I don’t pay much attention to movie reviews. That’s because I like romantic movies, usually dissed by the reviewers, and movies with a happy ending. I don’t go to movies to be depressed. I go to be entertained and to feel good when I walk out of the theater.
Since I’m somewhat discerning in the movies I see, I can’t remember going to one where I felt disappointed when it was over. So when I saw that Moviefone had come up with their “10 Worst Movies of 2008 list,” I had to check it out.
10. Meet Dave starring Eddie Murphey
9. The Hottie and the Nottie starring Paris Hilton and Christine Lakin
8. 88 Minutes starrring Al Pacino
7. Fool’s Gold starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson
6. Saw Vee
5. Jumper
4. 10,000 BC
3. Disaster Movie
2. The Love Guru (I saw the previews of this one and thought it looked stupid)
1. The Happening
I’d like to know if you’ve seen any of these movies and if they were really as bad as the review thought. Also– do you have any movies that you think should have been on this list??

Hi Cindy,
I saw Fools Gold on a plane, and I can tell you it deserved its place in the list! The plot was cliched and the acting was wooden…at least the scenery was pretty – but even though I am Australian, that wasn’t enough to rescue the movie.

I didn’t mind Fools Gold, but The Happening absolutely belongs on that list! Bleh!

I’ll add Speed Racer, Dan in Real Life, Beowulf, The Invasion, The Last Legion and White Noise 2, though I think the last 3 were only released on DVD in 2008.

I cringed for Mike Myers when I saw the previews for The Love Guru. Such a nice guy, so much talent…what happened?
I saw The Day the Earth Stood Still last week…thought the first 10 minutes were pretty cool, followed by an hour and a half of such predictability that I nearly dozed off. Felt Quantum of Solace was rather dull, aside from the pleasure of looking at Daniel Craig. Ah, well…

I haven’t seen any of those movies. The worst movie I saw was Burn After Reading. I was so bored and grossed out. I disagree with MJ about Dan in Real Life. I thought that was cute.

I didn’t see any of those movies on the list, but I would add “The Eye” with Jessica Alba. It was a remake of an Asian horror movie. The acting was bad.

I saw and liked Saw V and 10,000 BC. Meet Dave was horrible, but I haven’t liked a movie that Eddie Murphy was in.
I’ll agree that Beowulf was awful. I was pretty dissapointed it could have been much better.

I love all these comments and I’m keeping track of all the bad movies that have been mentioned.
Even though I realize one person may like a movie that another one hates, I think most of us are on the same page so I don’t want to waste my time. Especially when there are so many I’ve gotten rave reviews on that I still haven’t seen.
C’mon, there have to be more bad ones to put on my “Do NOT RENT” list….

My 10 year old loved Disaster Movie – thought it was hysterical. I barely smiled in the 90 minutes that it was showing. That’s 90 minutes I’ll never get back!

I didn’t see any of the movies on the list. I was disappointed by Quantum of Solace too. I liked the sophisticated, witty Bond who romanced women better than the current character — although it’s nice to look at Daniel Craig.
The Joker was too grim for me also …but don’t put it on your list because a lot of people went to see it more than once. I like to see good triumph over evil and that didn’t happen in The Joker.

I didn’t mind Fool’s Gold or 10,000 BC but then I saw them for $1 at home lol. My daughter said The Day the Earth stood Still wasn’t any good and neither was Jumper. I saw Beowolf in IMAX which made it neat. I usually forget the bad ones unless I see them written down.

I love going to the movies also. Sadly, since I’ve got young ones, that happens very rarely. This year the only movie I say in a theater was Wall-E, which I think was one of the best reviewed movies of the year. I loved it.
I did rent Jumper at home and didn’t think it was terrible. Not great, but not awful, either.
Here’s a random bit of info. A guy I went to high school with was in The Hottie or the Nottie. So I’m embarrassed to say I watched that preview numerous times, because I was trying to figure out if it was really him or not. It looked just gawd awful.

I actually enjoyed 88 minutes – it’s not the best thriller ever, but it was entertaining. As was Fool’s Gold, not brilliant, but cute.
I love Dan in Real Life so I have to disagree with MJ too.
It seems like there were a few movies we saw this year that weren’t good at all, but I’ve evidently blocked them from my memory.
