I make my sugar cookies every Christmas – different than Emily’s – I think hers taste more like shortbread, and they are very good. I also make an old family recipe that goes back to my dad’s grandmother – orange pecans, they are so yummy! And then there’s peanut butter fudge, ritz cracker goodies, and mock toffee. My mom makes the best pecan pralines in the world, and I have the recipe, but I haven’t braved it yet.

I like gingerbread. My birthday is on Christmas, so I always ask for a gingerbread cake (with chocolate).

I love sugar cookies, too, with the holiday decorations and sprinkle. I also like shortbread and gingerbread cookies.

That *is* cool to have a family recipe going back that far! My grandma made some (non-holiday-specific) treats like Mississippi Mud but alas she’s gone and no one has her recipes.

We always have a special Jello salad at holiday meals — red and green Jello, made separately of course, and when you combine them add in whipped cream (or Cool Whip), cream cheese bits, pineapple, and marshmallows.

Butter tarts! It’s just not Christmas without butter tarts (my grandmother’s recipe). Nor is it Christmas without a viewing of the original cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
