I’ve rediscovered my passion for American history by listening to some great books on CD. A friend of mine shares the same passion so we are having a lot of fun discussing it.

I don’t know if this counts, but at the ripe old age of 37 I discovered that I actually love Snickers even though I thought I didn’t like them. Not exactly a new passion though.

Wow, Fedora, how brave of you!

Shana, that’s so awesome that you made the group, I knew you would. I took voice in high school, but pretty much gave up signing (except for the car) sometime in college and I’ve never gone back. I never had a performance voice though, mostly I just can carry a tune. So I still just sing in the car. As for new passions, I blogged not too long ago about getting back to my scrapbooks and while that’s just a hobby, it’s one I love. And I think I’m pretty good at it. Other than that I will say that last year I rediscovered reading for pleasure and wow, what a joy that is.

That is SO cool, Shana! I really love ballet, and recently started classes again (after a five-year hiatus) I’m in a class with a bunch of kids who are younger than I was when I took my first class… yikes!

Congratulations on acing the audition and pursuing your passion, Shana Oh, how I wish I could sing, but you’d thank me for not indulging. Funny that you mention rediscovering old passions. Just yesterday I was having this same discussion with a good friend. I said that I needed to do something because I was feeling a bit stagnant. Art has always been my passion. Before our daughter was born, I had a photography fellowship at an art school here in Central Florida. I gave it up when I got pregnant because I didn’t want to be around the chemicals. But in the process, I discovered a love for alternative approaches to photography, such as Polaroid transfers, which end up looking like watercolor paintings. Also, a couple of months ago, I took a beading class, but out off the projects because of my deadline. I need to get back to it and to my photography. Thanks for the inspiration — and happy singing!

I’ve also always wanted to paint…I love the smell of oil paints, the feeling of the brushes. Alas, I’m terrible when it comes to actually reproducing anything (the only C I ever got was in art, and I talked my way up to a B+…(“You know I tried, Professor, you know I did…”). But I think it would be fun to do, regardless of the result. I guess I’ll have to be a modern artist. None of this landscape stuff for me.

I used to be an artist. I started out with a major in art, but changed after my first year into nursing. (There’s a huge switch for you!) So now I’m into the art of writing, but I’m thinking about getting back into drawing and painting.
