Loves
Written by Katherine Garbera in Jaunty PostA very wise writing friend of mine just sent a note to a group I’m on about loves. First let me say that this woman is the woman I want to be when I grown up. And so I always listen to everything she has to say and find ways to help use her words to enrich my life.
But today’s words really struck me. She had read an article in Oprah magazine talking about the loves in life. The different ones that come from all different times of our entire life.
We spend so much time thinking about the things that aren’t right in our world that taking a few minutes to think about the things that are can be very gratifying.
So here mine are not all of them because this is a public forum, but some of them.
I love that I have two beautiful children who even though they aren’t perfect are mine. I love the sounds of their voices very different but still so harmonious for me.
I love that I have a man in my life who likes me for who I am. All the crazy silliness I get up to with my writing, actions and ideas.
I love that I have the kind of parents who never say no. That they are always there for me and even though there were times in my life when I wasn’t ready to reach for them they were still standing right there.
I love that I have good friends that even distance doesn’t matter to us. I can get an e-mail or a phone call and laugh or cry or just let out whatever emotions are bothering me and those friends always respond right away.
I love that the words that I am given to write from God touch readers and that these readers share the experience that they have reading my books with me. It is the final connection to God that completes the circle of my writing endeavors.
I love the way my Grandma’s hugs used to feel. When I’m really tired and feeling low I sometimes feel her arms wrap around me.
What about you guys? What do you love?

That was beautiful, Katherine.
I love that my children and healthy and whole and have wonderful personalities and imaginations.
I love that my husband misses me when I’m gone, laughs at my jokes, eats my cooking no matter what and plays with our children.
I love that my sister gets me no matter what. And that I have friends who like the sisters of my soul.
I love that my father taught me to be practical and my mother taught me to dream and that they’re both still here, still teaching me.
I love that my family and my life have been filled with strong women to serve as role models for me.

I love the my husband loves me the way he does. And I love that he makes me laugh everyday and that he knows just when I need to go out when I’m having a rough day.
I love my family, they way they’re loud and big and crazy. I love that my nieces and nephews still like to get in my lap even though they’re all way too big for that sort of thing now.
I love my cats and their incessant neediness that always makes me feel like the best cat mom ever.
I love how right now I’m looking out my living room window and I can see the maple tree in my front yard is already turning with fall colors. Soon it will be ablaze with red.
I love telling stories and getting paid to do so.
I love my friends. They are few in numbers, but they more than make up for it in their ability to understand and love me.
Great post, Kathy!

Here’s my list — by no means is it all-inclusive or in any particular order:
I love that I am so blessed with a wonderful family and good friends. None of us is perfect, but sometimes it’s the imperfections that make me love “my people” even more.
I love my daughter’s laugh and how she’s such a wise old soul.
I love my job, and that I have the opportunity to live my dream. I still can’t believe I get to write books for a living — blows me away every time I think about it.
I love my animals – my cat and… yes, I have to say it… I can’t believe I love a dog so much I’m silly over her!!!
I love fall and chocolate and photographs and art (especially the Impressionists); books and cobalt blue glass (that color when the sun shines through it); music of all types and laughing over silly things; and I love the memories of people I’ve lost who’ve touched my life.
I could go on and on, but I’ll stop there. Thanks for encouraging us to think about this, Kathy!

Thanks for sharing, Kathy! I enjoyed your list!
I love my children dearly, and am proud and sniffly to see signs of their maturing. Another mom stopped me today to let me know how well behaved and polite my oldest was at a party when I wasn’t there–that was such a sweet thing to hear
I’m am blessed beyond measure by my fabulous husband. He can cook and puts up with a house filled to overflowing with books
I love my sister and best friend–I always miss her when she’s out of town because I’m so used to being able to call her up at the drop of a hat just to chat.
I love being near my parents and my husband’s parents–my children get to grow up knowing and loving their grandparents.
Thanks for reminding us to count our loves and blessings!

Kathy,
What a great post! It’s also so much fun to read everyone elses posts.
I’m short of time but let me just say that I love the fact that I’m able to feel such gratitude for all the blessings in my life!
