Cup of Coffee, anyone?
Written by Cindy Kirk in Jaunty PostIt’s starting to feel like Fall in Nebraska. Farmers have started to harvest the corn, the nights are cool and I’ve begun to drink more coffee. From the time I was a teenager I’ve loved the taste of coffee. When I started out, I liked it black. Then, in college, I worked in a small office and my boss was an avid coffee drinker. He loved his with cream. Before I quit working there I was drinking mine with cream. And, by the time I hit my 30’s, I was hooked on coffee with cream AND splenda. And if I can have it flavored (Snickerdoodle) all the better!

Did you know…
* 27% of U.S. coffee drinkers add a sweetener to their coffee.
* The popular trend towards flavored coffees origniated in the U.S. during the 1970’s
* The average person who buys coffee outside the office to consume at work will spend the equivalent value of a round trip plane ticket to Florida every year
With the downturn in the economy, I’ve heard some people are cutting back. Instead of stopping at Starbucks or hitting the Scooter’s drive-thru, they’re making their coffee at home. And sometimes, to further cut costs, they’re returning to less expensive coffees of yesteryear–Folger and Maxwell House.
I think Folgers 100% Columbian is good coffee. I haven’t tried Maxwell House in years.
The coffee I REALLY like comes from Dunkin’ Donuts, McDonalds or Cracker Barrel.
Has the downturn in the economy caused you to change your coffee drinking habits? And where can your favorite cup of coffee be found???

Margo Maguire Says:
Starbuck’s is my coffee. I’m pretty regular about taking my laptop to Starbuck’s and working on my manuscript every day. Somehow, the place helps to keep me focused. And I love the coffee!
Shana Galen Says:
I always make coffee at home and bring it with me. I’m one of the people that has to doctor it up. I add flavored cream and 2 packets of Splenda. If I got to Starbucks to write or use the internet, I do buy coffee there. I think that’s only fair.
Debora Says:
I’m definitely a Folgers Classic Roast gal at home…and after church on Sundays,it’s Dunkin Donuts all the way…Wal*Mart just started carrying little bags of Dunkin Donuts coffee so I’ll treat myself every once in a while and use it in the afternoon…way too expensive to use in the morning when I drink a couple of potfuls! I can’t stand the taste of Starbucks, too bitter for my palate…I drink my coffee black.
I always take a thermos of coffee
to work, Folgers…in the Starbucks thermos a friend gave me for Christmas!
Cindy Kirk Says:
Margo and Shane,
Starbucks is a great place to hang out. And if I go there I always buy something too. But I agree with Debora that the coffee is a bit too bitter for my taste buds.
Debora,
I have a Scooters thermos that I fill with Dunkin Donuts coffee that I make at home.
RobynDeHart Says:
I loathe coffee. I hate the way it smells, hate the way it tastes, I just find all of it quite icky. I’m more of a hot tea kind of gal so if I’m ever working at Starbucks, which I do on occasion (but more often find myself at Panera’s) I order their iced green tea or their chai latte if I really want a treat.
Devon Ellington Says:
Starbucks is too acidic for me; it upsets my stomach. Plus, there’s no way I’m paying 5 bucks for a cup of coffee.
I do have a soft spot for Starbucks Hot Chocolate, though.
But I’d rather drink deli coffee than Starbucks.
I like Dunkin’ Donuts, Javana, Newman’s Own, Peet’s, Green Mountain, and other brands. I drink A LOT of coffee — just with a little milk, no sugar. I’ve loved coffee for years.
Cindy Kirk Says:
Robyn,
I also love Green Tea. Our local Caribou Coffee was giving away samples of a new smoothie last week–Green Tea and Raspberry. It was super duper good!!
Devon,
I’m definitely going to have to try the Starbuck’s hot chocolate and the Newman’s own coffee. I’ve seen the Newman’s but never picked it up. But since you and I seem to like the same type of coffee, I’ll definitely grab some next time I see it. Thanks for the recommendation!
Mary M Says:
It’s only been in the past year that Starbucks has started tasting bitter to me so I wonder if they’ve changed something. I find differences in quality at different locations so maybe it’s the brewing too. I LOVE Starbucks hot chocolate but it’s a treat…not daily fare.
Cindy Kirk Says:
Mary,
I’ve wondered if they’ve changed something too. The only way I can drink it now is to do 3/4 coffee, 1/4 hot water, THEN add my splenda and cream.
