Welcome Beverly Jenkins!
Written by Jaunty Guest in Jaunty PostFirst, I’d like to thank Margo for inviting me to contribute. The last time we were together was in the Detroit airport on our way to National. I’d forgotten my blood pressure meds and Margo’s timely advice helped save my bacon. I definitely needed the meds later when I got to the hotel in SanFran and discovered the shuttle driver had not loaded my luggage onto the van and left it standing on the side of the road at the airport! Talk about high blood pressure. Needless to say everything turned out okay, and I had a great time, so thanks again, Margo.
In Feb 09, my publisher Avon will be releasing my first mainstream. It’s titled Bring on the Blessings. The story is one of hope and faith, and did I mention there’s a 600 lb hog named Cletus that wears clothing, too! The engine of the story is a woman named Bernadine Brown. Her divorce from her oil king husband leaves her with Oprah-like money. She knows that when much is given much is expected, so she buys an historic town that is on the brink of bankruptcy. Her hope is to restore it to its former glory and infuse it with a 21st century purpose.
I don’t know of anyone who hasn’t fantasized about what they might do if they ever won the lottery. Dreams of new houses, saving the world and partying like there’s no tomorrow top many lists. Personally, I know of many organizations I would bless with a big shot of cash; most centered around education and kids, and yes, my friends and I would party, too. So what would you do if you like our heroine Bernadine Brown were suddenly given 275 million drawing interest every day?

Thanks so much for blogging with us today, Beverly. I hope you’ll come back and tell us more about Bring on the Blessings.
What would I do if I had mega bucks? Probably the same thing I do now! Write, LOL!

Welcome, Beverly!
I love the idea of buying a historic town. There are so many fabulous towns with great history that get left by the way side. So I love the concept of your book.
As for what I would do with all that money, probably something environmental, maybe buy a big chunk of rainforest or fund solar cell research or something like that. The possibilities are endless. But fun to imagine.
Shana Galen Says:
I’d donate the money to hurricane relief. I know so many people who have been devastated by Gustav and Ike. Oh, and I’d take a couple thou and bribe the AT&T people to come and fix my cable and internet!

Hey ladies. Thanks for the kind welcome. Just returned from Urgent Care. Doc looked in the ear that’s been paining me for the past few days and said, “WOW!” Both ear drum and canal infected, so off to pharmacy for antibiotis and LOTS of yogurt. Again thanks for the invite to guest blog and I’ll check back in a bit. B
RobynDeHart Says:
Thanks for joining us, Beverly.
Man, if I had that kind of money I’d probably have more kids than I knew what to do with. We’d definitely adopt, from everywhere.
catslady Says:
So many good causes to choose from but I’d probably use it by starting an animal shelter (no kill of course).
Buffie Says:
Hey Beverly! My husband and I play the “what if we won” game at least once a month. Our response is usually the same — pay off debt, buy new houses, new cars, make sure all the kids (ours and those in the extended family) have a trust for college and afterwards, give to our church and the boys’ school, and then find several small organizations that really need the money to make a big difference in the community.
The idea of buying a historical community reminds me of the time that Kim Basinger (sp?) bought the town of Braselton, Georgia. I live in Georgia and we heard quite a bit about it back then. I don’t think she owns it any more.
beverly jenkins Says:
hey Robyn. Foster kids play a large roll in Blessings. it’s part of the heroine’s vision. I’m an adoptive parent. My son joined the family when he was 5. He’s now 22 and quite the man.
Kristan Higgins Says:
Hi, Beverly! We met on the shuttle ride from the San Francisco airport!
I think about winning the lottery all the time, but my chances are even smaller than most, since I don’t buy tickets. However, I do have my winnings planned out already…
My son was a preemie, weighing only a pound and a half at birth. If I ever had enough money, I’d love to endow the hospital where he spent his first couple of months. Those nurses and doctors were just amazing, holding my hand (and my baby) during that whole difficult time. I’ve always dreamed of trying to honor them in a big way.
Anyway, the book sounds great, Beverly. So nice to run into you again!

Hey Kristan. Great hearing from you. Loved your idea of how you’d spend the money. Maybe you should go ahead and buy a lotto ticket or two every now and then. You never know. Hope to run into you again somewhere soon, preferrably with my luggage ON the shuttle. LOL Thanks for the wonderful response. B
beverly jenkins Says:
Well Jaunty Quills I guess my time is up. Just wanted to say thanks again to Margo for allowing me to come and play today. You all stay blessed. B
