The Jaunty Quills welcomes Kathy Garbera

Written by Jaunty Guest in Jaunty Guests

I love adventure and romance. My earliest introduction to romance was the movie Romancing the Stone and to an impressible 13 year old that was the lifestyle I wanted. Crafting exciting stories and then having my life unfold into an adventure sounded like the perfect life for me.

I’m lucky that I was able to find the right balance in my real life to enable me to write the kind of stories I love. I write for two publishers Silhouette Books for their Desire line where I get to explore my dreams of living a very glitzy jet-set lifestyle and for Kensington Books for their Brava imprint where I get to write about women who kick serious butt and the sexy guys who keep up with them.
As a little girl I longed for adventure. Don’t we all? My childhood was normal and borderline dull except for in my imagination where I often pretended to be the heroines of my day. Wonder Woman, one of Charlie’s Angels or even the Bionic Woman. My upcoming release BARE WITNESS is the second in a series of books I’m doing for Kensington that features a Charlie’s Angels type investigation firm.
In the story a young girl is kidnapped and my heroine Justine has been hired to get her back. Justine has to deal with some baggage from her own past as she tries to find the young girl before it is too late. She is accompanied on the mission by her partners and by the girl’s father whom she is attracted to.

So what about you? Have you ever had an daring adventures in real life? Or are you more the kind of person who likes to read about her adventures?

I will send a copy of BARE WITNESS to one lucky participant at this blog.

Happy reading!
Kathy

Hey, Kathy! Can’t wait to read your book! Personally, no, I’ve never had much adventure of the bad guys sort, but I’ve always wondered about what I’d do if a situation presented itself. Since I have no latent martial arts skills, have never fired a gun, and have no idea how to fly a fighter plane, I think the results would be sloppy at best! Reading adventure stories is definitely more my thing.

Welcome Kathy! I’m right there with you in that Romancing the Stone presented a world I was I ready to jump into the first time I saw it. As for my actual life, no, not so much. But I love to put my characters through the ringer and take them on a heck of an adventure. It’s much safer, there aren’t any snakes and I never break my nails.

  3. Shana Galen Says:

Welcome, Kathy! No adventures in real life, which is fine with me! I used to pretend to be Princess Leia, though

    Welcome, Kathy!
I’m a fellow Desire author myself. The closest I’ve ever come to big adventure was having my wallet, all my cash and my passport stolen while traveling abroad. But it’s one of those things that sounds like it could have been adventurous and was actually just inconvenient.

  5. Quilt Lady Says:

Hello Kathy, I am not much on adventures in real life, but I love them in my books.

  6. Stacie Mc Says:

I’m too attached to comfort to have real life adventures but I really enjoy reading them.

Romancing the Stone was a fantastic movie!

  7. Maureen Says:

Raising two children was enough of an adventure for me but I do love to read about heroines on adventures. I loved Romancing the Stone, it is an all time favorite of mine.

I have such a boring life…no daring adventures for me. But that’s OK because I am such a chicken! ;-) I do, however, know how to shoot a gun because my policeman son made me learn.

I have to get my dose of adventure through movies and books. Bare Witness sounds fun and exciting!

Normally I would say no but a long time ago my husband and I took a cruise and while in Haiti we took an hour long drive to get to a mountain and rode up it by horse (I don’t ride by the way). At the top was a fort called the Citadel (there’s a nice history on this). All was well until the trip down. This one guide made me switch horses with him (I thought something was wrong with mine maybe) but they were all laughing and talking in spanish. Well, the next thing you know my horse fell! Right next to a cliff. OMG they gave me the bad horse. Luckily I came away with just a cut under my arm pit (which bothered me the rest of the trip - it was hot so not pleasant). Then there was the time in Paris but maybe I should save that for another blog lol.

    Hello Kathy…
Goodness, your book made me need a beer, so hold on… o.k. I’m back…I’m super excited for your book. Most of my adventures happened when I was younger and we had BBQ porch parties and hayrack and river rafting. Nothing as extreme as Peru, but Wow, I mean Wow that is what reading is all about. It is raining here today, and I have my beer, where is your book? What a perfect adventure THAT would be…LOL!!! Thanks for the wonderful chat Kathy

THe only adventures I have are (it was a horrible, horrible bad days (getting to job interviews, bad vacations, etc. I prefer to read about them.

  12. Jane Says:

    Hi Kathy,
I’m definitely not a daring person. It’s more comfortable for me to read about about daring adventures, although I would love to have been Evelyn in “The Mummy” movies.

  13. Laura Says:

I want to be a daring person, if that counts for anything. But, alas, I’m someone who just reads about others’ adventures. *sigh* :)

  14. Fedora Says:

Hi, Kathy, I’m definitely an armchair adventurer! I’m way too cautious to experience some of those exciting times in real life! Congrats on Bare Witness! (BTW, I just read a bunch of your King of Hearts stories from the Desire line–they were very fun to read! Do you have more of those planned? And you mentioned that Bare Witness is book two–how many do you have planned, and when can we expect more? ;))

  15. Katherine Garbera Says:

Hey everyone! I spaced on the day I was doing this blog so am just now stopping by.

Bare Facts was the first book in my Liberty Investigations series, Bare Nerve will be the last. It’s coming out in February 09.

I have no more King of Hearts books planned right now.

I’d love to be Evie in the Mummy series too and not just because Brendan Fraser was her hubby! But the adventures she has totally rock.

The winner of the book is Jane.

Please email me at kathy@katherinegarbera.com with your snail mail address so I can send your book.

Thanks everyone for sharing your adventurous nature with me!

    Kathy :)

  16. Fedora Says:

Kathy, thanks for taking the time to answer–I’ll be looking for Bare Witness and Bare Nerve! And congrats, Jane!

  17. Jane Says:

Thanks for the book, Katherine. Thanks, Fedora.
