What Makes you “Antsy”?

I have a confession to make. I can’t watch a movie more than once. I can’t read the same book more than once every few … er, several … years. I can’t sit still for speeches. What happens when I do all these things? My legs start to twitch and I get this really weird sensation running up and down my spine. Sort of like …

I used to think I had Restless Legs Syndrome. Now I realize I get it only when I’m watching a movie that we just watched a week (or three) ago. Or I’m reading the same passage from a book in which I’ve lost my place. Or how about waiting rooms? If I don’t have a book, a magazine, anything to read, my skin starts to crawl! I don’t know what comes over me, or why. But I just can’t sit through it.

But yet I can do other repetitive, boring jobs without being bothered by them. I can clear the table and fill the dishwasher (just as I’ve done 90 million times before). Or walk the same 2.5 mile route every morning. Or go grocery shopping at the same store every week.

What gives? Why can I do some repetitive things, but not others? Am I the only one, or do you have certain things along these lines that make you want to pull your hair out?

I cannot watch a TV show more than once. I can watch a movie I really like over and over, but not a TV show. The idea of getting s TV series on DVD and watching it again baffles me. Watching a re-run I have seen baffles me. There are so many other things to watch! Like movies. I’ve already seen. Yes, I know this makes no sense.

I’m okay with rereading books and watching movies and tv shows again and again. I do hate eating the same breakfast or lunch for two days straight. I like variety when it comes to food.

I can watch movies, tv shows, over and over again. And the same with books. When I first started reading romances, I had about four old Harlequin Presents I read over and over and over again. So rereading, rewatching … I can do that over and over again.

And that was going to be the end of my post. Until I read Jane’s response and realized I’m the same about breakfast. I can eat the same thing about five days in a row and then that’s it.

I can rewatch movies and TV shows I love. There are some movies I never get tired of. And I could watch Friends episodes anytime. I’m not a big re-reader though. I don’t want to ruin the original feelings of that first read. The exception, I’ve re-read several of the Harry Potter books, but that’s really it. I’ve never re-read any romances.

As far as what makes me want to pull my hair out – sitting in traffic. It makes me feel stuck and closed in and a little like a crazy person. I’ve had full-blown panic attacks sitting in traffic before, it’s not pretty.
