She’sssss Back
Written by Cindy Kirk in Jaunty PostThis week when I was picking out a 4th of July card to send my daughter…I found one that had a quote from Erma Bombeck. Well, I LOVE Erma Bombeck’s wisdom so I thought I’d share a few of my favorite quotes with you. I realize it’s a holiday weekend but I’d really like to know which is your favorite. Or if you have a quote by someone else to share I’d love to hear it. (I collect quotes and keep them by my computer)

“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”

“I haven’t trusted polls since I read that 62% of women had affairs during their lunch hour. I’ve never met a woman in my life who would give up lunch for sex.”

“It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.”

“People shop for a bathing suit with more care than they do a husband or wife. The rules are the same. Look for something you’ll feel comfortable wearing. Allow for room to grow.”

“There are people who put their dreams in a little box and say, “Yes, I’ve got dreams, of course I’ve got dreams.” Then they put the box away and bring it out once in awhile to look in it, and yep, they’re still there.”

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, “I used everything you gave me”.

Those are some good quotes! Of those you listed, this one made me laugh out loud:
“I haven’t trusted polls since I read that 62% of women had affairs during their lunch hour. I’ve never met a woman in my life who would give up lunch for sex.”
Too funny! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for commenting…that one made me laugh, too!

I like the one about polls as well.
My favorite quote at the moment is “I love being a writer. What I can’t stand is the paperwork.” Peter de Vries

Shana,
Great quote. I’m adding it to my list!
Thanks!
Amy Says:
I love that last one.
Though the one about women, sex and lunch are too funny.
Cindy Kirk Says:
Amy,
The last two are my personal favs…it’s so easy to put our dreams aside and to not use our talents!
Thanks for commenting!

I loved all of the quotes, and I also have a few to share. You may already have them, but here they are:
“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body…but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, WOW! What a ride!”…

“For many people, an excuse is better than an achievement because an achievement, no matter how great, leaves you having to prove yourself again in the future but an excuse can last for life.”
~~ Eric Hoffer
There is more stupidity than hydrogen in the universe, and it has a longer shelf life.
– Frank Zappa
If wealth is gone, nothing is lost; if health is gone, something has lost. But if a good character is gone, everything is lost.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.
—George Eliot
The difference between grace and mercy: Grace is when God gives us what we don’t deserve. Mercy is when God doesn’t give us what we do deserve.

Mary M Says:
From what I’ve heard, nooners are much better than eating lunch.
Cindy Kirk Says:
Mary,
I guess it depends on if you can take an extended lunch hour or not
