I Miss Reading
Written by Shana in Jaunty Post
My life is definitely too busy. I have 7 books checked out from the library, and I’ve only started 3 of them. Plus, I have another I’m halfway through, but it’s not from the library. I should probably put it at the bottom of the stack, but it’s so good!
We’re supposed to go to a party tonight, but I told my husband that if I had my choice I would stay home and write and read. Do you ever want to skip social events and just read? Does that make me anti-social?
I have enough time to write—not as much as I’d like, but enough. But something has to go when I’m writing a book, and since it can’t be my day job and I already only get like 6 hours of sleep, I guess it’s been my reading time.
Do you have enough time to read? What do you do to make more time for reading?

Laura Says:
Oh, I so miss reading too! In January I decided to go back to school and it’s so cut into my reading time. This time last year I’d read something like 15 to 20 books (and it was a slow year, last year!). This year I’ve read three. THREE!
Wait, you were asking what we do to make more time for reading. Um, obviously I don’t have an answer but will be anxious to see what others do!

I miss reading too. I still try to read before I go to sleep, but some nights I just fall into bed. And really what I miss more than anything is reading historical romances. When I’m writing a new book (usually just the first draft stage) and I’m figuring out the story and the characters I don’t read other historicals because I don’t want to accidentally borrow something. I’m paranoid, I suppose. So I miss being able to just pick one up and read it any time I want. Needless to say my historical TBR pile is huge. But when I went to buy Anne’s newest the other night I read the first chapter at the store and it’s right at the top of my list and will be the first one I read when my current book goes in the mail.
Margo Maguire Says:
I really do. There doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to do everything I’d like to do. Maybe if I gave up sleep …
Virginia H. Says:
I always set time aside every night before I go to bed to read, at least one to two hours. I do not get into bed until one or two though.
Amy Addison Says:
Talk with a bunch of people I don’t know well or stay home and read….is this a trick question?
Mary Says:
I thought I was the only one who sometimes hates to go out because I’d rather read a book.
I confided to a friend at a luncheon that I would love to just read all the time and she sniffed, “I wouldn’t want to be lazy.” I was too flabbergasted to respond. If reading is lazy, we need to become a lazier society, lol.
Shana Says:
Reading is lazy? It’s exercise for the mind! :fryingpan:
Fedora Says:
I’d add hours to day for reading if I could! I usually try to read a bit before lights out, but I don’t really know how to make any more time for reading. Occasionally I ignore the kids for hours on end, but that really doesn’t seem like a good idea in the long run
Mary Says:
I was just thinking the SAME thing when I walked past my bookshelf, and then read Pam Morsi has another book out! But with school ending, and a deadline for one publisher, and feeling the pressure to have something new for another, and revisions….
Last weekend I was so sick I couldn’t write OR read! And me with the new Nora sitting right here. I did watch a lot of Veronica Mars, though. Still, I miss reading.
