Anniversaries
Written by Shana in Jaunty PostLast week was my anniversary. USF and I have been married 2 whole years. Sometimes it seems like it’s gone by super fast and other times…well, it doesn’t always seem to go by quickly.
So while I was on my way to the drug store to buy him a card, I started thinking that maybe I should get him a small gift as well. I remembered that our first anniversary was easy because that’s paper. A card worked perfectly. But what’s the second anniversary?
Enter good old Mom. Sorry, Mom. I mean, good, young Mom. I called her and asked what the appropriate gift for year 2 is. She told me it’s cotton, then looked it up on a website. Apparently, that’s traditional. The modern equivalent is china. Well, they don’t have any china at the drug store, so cotton it was.
I ended up taking cotton balls and making him a little card out of them. He liked it, though he was a bit confused at first. (Apparently, USF isn’t up on anniversary gift traditions).
Here’s the link to the traditional and modern anniversary gifts for each year. What do you think? I kind of like the traditional, though I don’t think that’s what they had in mind for lace.

Happy anniversary, Shana! My hubby and I celebrated 10 years last Friday. And after checking that gift list, I was supposed to get diamond jewelry . . . hmmm . . .

The Professor and I had our third last Wednesday and he brought me a bouquet of roses and daisies (my favorites and they still look beautiful today), and he wrote me a love letter and took me to dinner. I gave him a card - we actually did a joint gift this year and bought a new dresser for our bedroom, we’re slowly buying furniture piece-by-piece. Happy belated anniversary to Shana and Andrea.

The differences betw traditional and modern are interesting. Like “Tin and aluminum.” No thank you! And ivory sure wouldn’t fly today… But honestly, I don’t know anyone who actually goes by these every year. My husband happened to buy me a nice diamond for our 10th, but he didn’t know it was a traditional thing. He upgraded my ring with a bigger diamond on our 25th - guess he didn’t know he should have given me something silver!
Dorothy Says:
Happy Anniversary, Shana and to Robyn!! Hope you have many more!!

Happy anniversary, Shana, Andrea, and Robyn! I’m not sure I buy into either list–I guess I just don’t like being told what to buy/receive
And wow, I’m not sure those were exactly what was traditionally in mind for silk or lace

Happy Anniversary, I have been married for 23 years now, and most of the time I forget our anniversary. Its always a week later when I remember. I know this is bad.
