Contest, anyone?
Written by Margo Maguire in Jaunty PostI’ve got a contest going on my website, so stop by and enter! Go to MargoMaguire and visit the “news” page for details. I’ll be drawing prizes at the end of April.
In the meantime, I’m working away on my next book, which will be a January 2009 release. I’ve got a title, too. It’s going to be called WILD. Now, that’s a title that brings to mind all sorts of things, don’t you think? I’m wondering if any of you can figure out the premise of the story, based on the title. Give it a try … if anyone gets it, I’ll send you an advance copy of TEMPTATION OF THE WARRIOR, which will be released next week!

Hmmm… I’ll try.
I’m guessing it’s a historical romance about a young woman who has been sheltered her entire life while living in the country with her father (a baron or perhaps a viscount) and brothers, so she is WILD compared to other ladies of the ton. Her father/brothers bring her to London to look for a husband (because she is of age or past due) and has a hard time adjusting to the social strictures of London. Most ladies and gentleman think her scandalous . . . except, of course, for our hero, who finds her a refreshing change from the usual greedy, selfish debutantes that pollute society. They endure conflicts, but eventually fall in love on their way to their HEA.
Kathryn Says:
I’m thinking of a tomboy as the heroine… probably raised alone in the country, no female role model, very hard on her governess(es)and wanting to take over her family’s holdings. Lots of conflict as women don’t DO that sort of thing, and her father wants her to marry the noble next door to combine the properties. She is resistant to the idea since she has met and secretly fallen in love with the man she thinks is the estate manager next door, not realizing he is actually the younger son…
Shana Says:
Ooh! I like these ideas. How close are they, Margo?
Margo Maguire Says:
These ideas are great, but they’re … WAY cold! Not even close.
Keep trying!
brownone Says:
Ooh, a historical western? I miss those…there haven’t been a lot of good ones lately!
Margo Maguire Says:
Nope - not a western. Wow, my storyline is really *out* there, eh? I’m walking on the Wild side, I guess.
AndreaW Says:
Is it a historical set in the wilds of Africa?
Hmmm, is it even a historical?
Margo Maguire Says:
Andrea, you are getting warmer, but not quite there.
limecello Says:
Haha - I can’t think b/c I’m on airport internet, which is so slow my head is about to explode. That and people around me - this woman is talking on her cell phone and laughing, and making the entire bench shake. Grr.
Ok - as to the premise of this story -historical, yes - the hero/heroine is raised by wolves! Or some other pack animal. Haha - probably it has to be set in some very unpopulated area, in the wilderness … of some spot. That’s about all I’ve got right now. You’ve definitely got me wondering though, Margo!
AndreaW Says:
Ooooo, does it take place on the WILD ocean sea? Or perhaps in the WILD and untamed America?
Fedora Says:
Hmm… wild? Wild? The heroine’s a stripper?
More seriously, I keep thinking of wilderness like Limecello. South America? In the jungle? Or maybe she’s a pirate!
Virginia H. Says:
I am thinking of a historical, which I love. The hero has been raised in the wild totally and the heroine falls in love with him and trys to tame him. Maybe it happens in the highlands of scotland. I just love highlander books so this sounds good to me.
Margo Maguire Says:
Here’s a hint:
The “Wild” aspect is not a place, but a character. However, a wilderness played a large part in this character’s life.
Virginia H. Says:
Hey it might even be an indian that has captured him a nice little lady. To keep all to himself.
Fedora Says:
Hmm… OK, now I keeping thinking of a wild rose, but maybe the heroine is captured/brought from another land–Native American or Africa or ?? And has an inherent wildness that can’t be completely tamed.
Margo Maguire Says:
You guys are great! I think Virginia has come closest … but no cigar, really. It’s not a western, so Indians are out. But one of the characters grows up in a wild place and comes home to England to be tamed. That’s all I’m going to say for now, but I’ll blog more about it soon.
AndreaW Says:
Oooo, like a Tarzan type character? Sounds intriguing, Margo!
Margo Maguire Says:
You are very hot, Andrea!
Details coming soon.
Fedora Says:
Good job, Andrea! And Margo, now we’re going to be eager awaiting more!
AndreaW Says:
w00t! Can’t wait for those details!
Thanks, Fedora.
Margo Maguire Says:
Heh - I’m evil, I know.

My guess:
Our hero has been raised on an exotic island somewhere and is now being brought back to England to take the title left to him. He is unused to the staid and strangled ways of the ‘ton, and is considered “wild” in his manners.
Our heroine meets him. He enlists her help to learn ‘tonnish ways, and they fall in love along the way. And she decides that she prefers her man a little “wild” after all!!
