Winning!
Written by Shana in Jaunty PostI’m not a lucky person. I’ve wasted money on lottery tickets, raffles, auctions…I just don’t win.
So imagine my surprise when I actually won something—something I really, really wanted to win.
If you’re a regular visitor to this blog, you’ll remember that I went to see my favorite group, The Newsboys, back in October. That was in Austin. Saturday night they played here in Houston, and I had tickets to go again. I also saw a contest in our local paper for a chance to win 2 front row seats and 2 backstage passes to the concert.
So, naturally, I entered.
And to my shock, I won!
And so Saturday night, I found myself in the front row of the concert. I could touch the stage. I was so close I could touch the Newsboys if I wanted (but I didn’t). Here are some pictures we took.

The concert begins

Peter sings

The drums rise and spin around

Right in front of us!
After the concert, we got to go backstage and do a meet and greet. I got all the Newsboys’ autographs and shook their hands. It was really cool! I was too nervous to ask for a picture, so I didn’t get a picture with all of us together. But maybe I can Photoshop my head into this one.

So what about you? Have you ever won anything?
P.S. Author and JQ friend Sandra K. Moore will be blogging with us tomorrow. Don’t forget to stop by.

How awesome, Shane! I don’t think I’ve ever won anything … ‘course I never enter anything, either.
Dorothy Says:
Yes, I won something once and just couldn’t believe it! I won tickets and backstage pass to the Beach Boys when they came to town a few years ago. It was awesome!
Dorothy Says:
and I forgot to mention that I have been the lucky winner of several books from the lovely ladies of the Jaunty Quills. I keep those books separate from my others so that they will stay in good shape.
Fedora Says:
Wow, Shana! That’s totally awesome!! How thrilling for you!
I don’t think of myself as having won many things, except wonderful books from author blogs, which if I think about it, are probably what I want most of all anyway
Robyn DeHart Says:
I’m not so much a winner, I don’t guess. But my mom wins stuff all the time. How cool for you though, Shana, sounds like you had a great night.
Helen Says:
Congrats Shana how wonderful I have won some wonderful books and coverflats from some terrific Authors and blogs and I love them they are so special to me.
Have Fun

Hi Shana,
Yay - congratulations! I haven’t really followed the Newsboys but I loved their song “Breakfast” - is that the title? Recently, I’ve been pretty lucky and have won some books - which is great b/c as a student they don’t (or shouldn’t) be in my budget. When I was little, I was super lucky - and it felt like I’d maxed out, b/c I’ve been doing book contests for 4+ yrs now, and just recently began winning.
Shana Says:
Yes, the Newsboys do have a song called “Breaskfast.” They played it at the concert, and it was so funny because a bunch of people pulled out Captain Crunch boxes and started waving them around.
Thanks for the responses everyone!
Rainy Says:
Congratulations!
There’s nothing like winning! I hardly ever play the lottery because I’m lucky if I get even one of the numbers.
I did win a Tv once. It was a contest at the video store and I threw my name in about an hour or so before the contest ended. I heard my name announced over the radio!
I also won a few concert tickets over the radio as the fourth caller or whatever. Otherwise, I might never have gone to an Englebert Humperdink concert!

That is so awesome! I love the way their accents come through in their songs. Especially the way they say the word “free,” as in, “I am fraaaay to love.” Congratulations… hopefully they didn’t have a high APR for tax time next year (eek).
