Sophie Jordan on A RISING STAR — My Obsession with Shia LaBeouf!
Written by Sophie Jordan in Jaunty GuestsOkay, we just came out of Oscar season , so I’m going to talk about someone that I’m convinced will one day be taking one of those Golden statutes home. This kid – ok, he’s not really a kid anymore – is an amazing actor! I first noticed him on Disney’s EVEN STEVENS.

I noticed him because he stood out so much from the rest of the cast – and he was maybe nine! ten years old at the time. I kept thinking that he was so funny. There aren’t many children capable of delivering humor in such a dry, age-wise manner. There was just something so compelling about him. Oh, he wasn’t all comedian. He could pull off the drama, too. Talk about range! I was glued to the screen whenever he came on. Even way back then, I said to myself, “Gosh, I hope this kid gets a break and moves out of the pond into the big pool.” And tada…

Notice the bottom type? The NEXT TOM HANKS? Hmmm….
Not only has the little boy grown up … he is receiving the critical acclaim I always hoped he would get. Is it weird to feel like a proud mama?! I mean, how many people saw him in EVEN STEVENS and said that kid has superstar potential? Ok, enough patting myself on the back.;)
I saw him in DISTURBIA the other night – ok movie, but I had to watch it since it was an updated version of REAR WINDOW (who could do better than Hitchcock, right?). Shia is in it!! DH just looked at me blankly as I proclaimed this, hopping excitedly on the couch. Still, despite the movie’s flaws, Shia gave a great performance.

So, can you guess my reaction when I learned he was cast in the new Indiana Jones movie? I can’t think of anyone better to play Indiana Jones’s love child! BTW, check out this photo of “Indy and son”!

Can’t wait to see it!!
Hugs,
Sophie

Welcome, Sharie!I’m excited about the new Indiana Jones movie, too. Those are always so much fun
Sophie Jordan/Sharie Kohler Says:
Ok, now DH has taken to ribbing me every chance he gets about Shia. Every time he walks in the room and ANYONE is on the TV, he innocently asks, “Oh, is that Shia LaBeouf?!” Funny, right?
BTW, I did start my fitness bootcamp yesterday. Suffice it to say, it hurts even to type.:(
Hugs,
Sophie

I’m a fan of Shia as well. My nieces and nephew watched Even Stevens, but it was Holes that did it for me. Not only is that a wonderfully charming movie, but he’s just great in it. I also liked Disturbia and Transformers. And I’m way excited he’s in the new Indiana Jones movie, which btw, comes out on my birthday! So I totally agree, Sophie, Shia is awesome!
Margo Maguire Says:
I never saw him on TV, but I think his movie work has been great! I just hope he doesn’t crash and burn like so many other child stars.
Taryn Raye Says:
The first time I saw Shia was on HBO’s Project Greenlight when he was chosen to star in The Battle of Shaker Heights, the screenplay that won. My husband and I agreed that we thought he was an up-and-comer. He was also in I,Robot and Constantine and did the voice of Cody in Surf’s Up.
Now a young man, he’s keeping busy in the biz and I’m glad of it. I hope he does rise to fame, but I hope fame doesn’t change him.
Sarah Says:
I like him too…
So disappointed to find out that he is a smoker…
brownone Says:
Well it seems that his head is on straight so far. I hope he goes the way of Leo Dicaprio and not buy into the whole party thing.
Amy Addison Says:
We’re Shia fans over here! My son watched Disturbia last fall when he was out of sports because of a knee injury. And we just LOVE Transformers. Nor can we wait for Indy…
Sophie Jordan/Sharie Kohler Says:
On movie nights, I keep begging DH to watch TRANSFORMERS (we have to mutually agree on movie choices (my rule ever since renting RON BURGUNDY - that’s two hours of my life I’ll never get back!). So far it’s a no go. Sheesh. He played with with transformers as a kid! You’d think he want to watch it. Well, he goes out of town a lot on business. I’ll have to rent it then.
And it does seem that he’s not letting it all go to his head. So far.=)

Helen Says:
I have yet to see him in a movie but I am really looking forward to the Indiana Jones movie can’t wait to see it.
Have Fun
Helen
Fedora Says:
I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything yet, but I’m not much of a movie watcher! He sounds amazing!
Sophie, your husband even played with Transformers and doesn’t want to see the movie???!!! The movie totally targets guys like him!! That’s hilarious! Well, if he won’t go for it, you’ll have to take advantage of one of those trips for a movie-night
And so sorry about Boot Camp–I’m scared to even think about one since I’m pretty much a puddle of mush…
Sophie Jordan/Sharie Kohler Says:
Helen and Fedora,
You must see him soon! That’s your homework.
And Fedora, you can’t be any mushier than I am right now. It’s been five months since I gave birth and I was on bed rest before then. My most strenuous activities have been typing and walking to the fridge.
Aside of having a beautiful South African accent, my coach is merciless! You have to picture this guy - his muscles have muscles! He wears fatigues and blows a whistle. He punishes us if we say we’re tired, or we can’t, or anything negative at all. And I mean he punishes ALL of us. It is bootcamp — seriously!
Yes, I am paying him to do this.;)

AndreaW Says:
Hi, Sophie!
Boy, do I hear ya! I used to watch him on Even Stevens when my sisters would watch it. I knew he was a good actor then. Now, he is phenomenal.
Transformers was awesome! I can’t believe your hubby doesn’t want to watch it.
And I am SOOOOOOOO looking forward to the new Indiana Jones movie, too! My son has really become interested in the IJ movies and Lego sets, so we can’t wait to see #4!
Fedora Says:
Uh, Sophie, five plus months after I gave birth, I was still mostly sitting in front of the computer and walking to the fridge (well, and nursing and diapering, but those aren’t huge on the ol’ fitness meter either!) I definitely wasn’t thinking about getting into any sort of shape (”shape of… an ice cream sundae! hey, I’m nursing all those calories away, right?”)
Kudos to you! (And yowza–your coach sounds just scary–in a good way, but scary!)
Mary Says:
I really liked Disturbia, and Shia in it. Can’t wait for Indy!
