My Passion
Written by Cindy Kirk in Jaunty PostI have a day job that I really like…but my passion is writing romance.
I think most of us have a job or something that we have to do that we like well enough….but there’s usually something else in our life that is our passion. It may be gardening, scrapbooking or any number of things.
My husband’s passion is building prototypes of riding lawnmowers? Sure it’s not conventional…but who says a passion has to be. He loves to work on the design, weld different parts together, do…well, whatever you do when you’re building something.
But I could be wrong. Perhaps not everyone does have a passion. Maybe it’s possible to go through life enjoying a lot of different things but not feeling passionate about anything in particular.
Do you have a passion? Do the people closest to you have a passion? Or am I waaaay off course in even asking???

Shana Says:
My passion is writing, too, Cindy. USF’s passion is sports. I’m probably about as interested in sports as you are in building prototypes of lawnmowers, but I think it’s really important that people I’m close to have a passion, even if it’s not mine. I like to hear about it because it’s nice to see their eyes light up.
Margo Maguire Says:
Mine is writing, but a close second is ice hockey. As a kid, I used to play, and now I love to watch the game!
brownone Says:
Does watching TV count? We have a running joke in my family where everyone still asks me what I want to do when I grow up. I guess to only things I really take the time to do is read, watch TV, and play video games.
Jenna Petersen Says:
I think everyone has a passion, but not everyone discovers their passion in their lifetime. My husband likes a lot of different things and cycles through lots of hobbies. He’s very passionate about them while he participates. But I’m not sure he’s found his true passion (though he’s very serious about his kickboxing right now, he’s even talking about going to Thailand to train).
As for me, it’s really writing, which is probably what every writer will tell you. It’s such a hard business that to survive I think it has to be your passion.
Shirley Karr Says:
We’re days away from our 22nd wedding anniversary, and I’m *still* trying to figure out my husband’s passion (other than me, of course).
He goes through phases — our vintage car, woodworking, right now it’s the winning Blazers — but it’s not truly a passion. That lack is as hard for me to understand as it is for him to get why I need to write or make jewelry.
Jenna, Thailand? Wow, that *is* serious.
Taryn Raye Says:
My passion is writing as well. It started when I was around 10 yrs. old and it’s always been there, in the back of my mind, even when I wasn’t writing, my mind and heart always lingered on it.
My husband has a passion for sports, too. He used to be a boxer, he was once a carnie, he owned a car detailing business and a video store once upon a time and he still has a “passion” about keeping up with movies and video games when they come out. I think he’d like to be able to open another business someday, but not sure we’d ever be able to afford it.
