The Other Me

Have you ever Googled yourself? This is something we authors shouldn’t do, but probably end up doing more than we care to admit. All you do is put your name in (I put quotes around it to narrow the search) and hit search. You will be amazed what you’ll come up with. For instance, there are several Jenna Petersen or Jenna Petersons (I have to put in both since people misspell my last name constantly). One is a massage therapist in the Boston area. She’s very nice. When people send her my email because they put in the wrong spelling, she always forwards it.

Then there’s a little girl who plays volleyball in Idaho, which is such a small world since I grew up in Idaho.

There don’t seem to be any other Jess Michaels, though someone did own that domain before I bought it out from under them a few years back. Whoever she is, she isn’t up to much.

So who do you come up with when you Google yourself? Any interesting doubles running around with your name?

Under my pen name, I mostly only found myself. Under my real name I found all sorts of fan fiction writers…LOL I guess it’s a good thing I decided to write under a pen. Haha! I think there was one photographer.

I am SO chicken – I don’t ever do this! I don’t even look at online review sites because I can’t take the good OR the bad. They both mess with my head.

Since I am both Millie Bullock and Mildred Bullock in real life I checked both and when I eliminated that hits that were really me (I have run a few websites for organizations in the past so I pop up that way), I found a college professor in Minnesota and a multitude of church secretaries in several different states (and I have to admit, “Millie Bullock” SOUNDS like a church secretary, doesn’t it?). In my “Mildred” incarnation, I am mostly in genealogy stuff from the 1700′s through about 1920. Not a lot of Mildred’s in the modern world, it appears.

Neat post, Jenna. I had never googled myself but I did today. Using my married name, my real self shows up on page one at McGill University where I work (among other incarnations). When using my maiden name I am chielf of business solutions, an obstetric nurse and a spring duathlon athlete. Who knew?

Margo, you are an original. There are 37 pages of “Margo Maguire” hits on Google. Every single one of them was you, including the ones in Spanish, Portuguese, German, Japanese, French (and a few other languages that I couldn’t define). If there is another Margo Maguire out there, she is a very quite person. :)

Hmm…there were 1,630,000 hits with my first and last name. Some were me (blog posts, contest wins, etc.), but apparently I share my name with a tv producer, a lawyer, a college professor, a researcher, an AP reporter (found a lot of her articles), a history teacher, etc. Apparently not only is my first name common, but the combo of it and my last name is too!!!

It was fun! My first name is very common, about 133,000,000 hits and since my last name in english means “pure, complete” I got 37,600 hits on that but not as a name. My name: only some contest wins! My first name is Eva(-Marianne) and here in Finland only 5 persons have got it in the last 150 years!
