Life’s Little Challenges

Written by Margo Maguire in Jaunty Post

Everybody’s got them. The things that we know we need to do, but it’s so … darned … hard.

Here are my top five daily challenges:

-> Disciplined writing until I achieve my page count goal each day.
-> Exercising enough.
-> Eating right.
-> Following up with boring details.
-> Housework.

OK, I’ve fessed up. Now you tell me about your daily challenges and we can commiserate together.

  1. Clarisse Says:

Can I just say “Me, too” on those and call it good. Those are pretty much my challenges to a T.

Oh, and spending my time on the internet when I shoud be doing something I am trying to avoid.

  2. brownone Says:

-Getting my work done instead of blog-hopping (can you see how succesful I am?)
-Picking up the kids from the bus stop on time (no matter HOW early I get there, I am always late!!)
    -Cleaning
-Getting dinner done at a decent hour
-Just saying “no” to people who need one “little” favor (yes, on a daily basis!)
-Getting through a day without arguing with the kids about homework

Oh…and I’ve long since given up eating right and exercise!

  3. Robyn DeHart Says:

Dang, Margo, it’s like you live in my house too.

I actually don’t have too much trouble (most days) getting my pages done, but some days, it’s like pulling teeth.

Exercise gets done if I do it in the morning or if The Professor and I make a walking “date.”

Laundry is like the bane of my existence. How can two people have so much dirty clothes? I know it will only get worse so I try to stay on top of it, one of our big problems though is simply not having enough space for clean clothes - I have plenty of hampers.

My office right now is an utter disaster area. It tends to happen periodically and it doesn’t help that I don’t tend to work in there (I much prefer my living room sitting in front of my large window watching the birds) so I don’t have to look at the mess. And did I mention that I share said office with someone? I’ve got three words for you…Absent minded professor.

  4. Margo Maguire Says:

Oh yeah, Clarisse - The Internet! What a time-waster. And I’m guilty of using it for that very purpose, too! :???:

  5. Margo Maguire Says:

Brownone - Saying no to “little” favors? I’ve definitely got to practice that.

  6. Margo Maguire Says:

Robyn - Laundry has never been a big deal for me, but I can’t mention my office. What a disaster!

  7. Stacy S Says:

You have some of my problems!Exercising enough. Something I hate to do.
Eating right: I’ve decided we need to go on a diet. My husband, son and me. We are all a tad overweight.
Housework: I have so many dust bunnies its pretty sad. That’s my least favorite thing to do. And laundry *g*. If I don’t watch my son like a hawk, he’ll change his clothes like 5 times a day.

  8. Clarisse Says:

Am I the only one who feels immensely better that we all seem to have the same challenges? I’ve been feeling terribly guilty lately that my life is a disorganized, ungainly mess but knowing we all seem to be in pretty much the same boat is a great comfort.

  9. Bonnie Says:

Housework and clutter control are the banes of my existence. I get one thing done and there are seventeen more demanding my attention. There are so many more interesting things to do: blog hop, read, go to the gym or just plain chase around on the internet looking up new books and authors.

  10. Margo Maguire Says:

So true, Bonnie! So many other things to do, besides the mundane. And way too little time!

  11. Taryn Raye Says:

Oh, I ditto just about every comment! I hate laundry. I just did all the laundry over the weekend..had NOTHING in the hamper Sunday night…Today I’ve already washed two loads, have one in the dryer now and I STILL have another load that needs doing after the other goes in the dryer.

Dishes- I hate doing dishes. No dishwasher here but lil’ ol’ me. I was mumbling about that to myself last night while I did up all the ones sitting on the counter that seemed to multiply everytime I looked their way. Kids are too young to do them and hubby…I’m beginning to think that he’s tuned out to the whole idea of helping me with anything around the house. The only time he does it is when I’m too sick to get out of bed. Maybe I should “play” sick one day, just so I can have a day off.

Another challenge is getting writing time in. Still have one child at home(starts kindergarten next year), so she demands a lot of my time throughout the day. And it’s like she has radar..she knows when I’ve settled into writerly mode and then suddenly she needs everything under the sun. LOL

I could go on and on. Dust bunnies love my house and the sheets need changing…I’m practicing my avoidance method as we speak.

  12. Crystal Says:

1-3. Waking up. I don’t do mornings. Getting ANYTHING done in the morning seems to be beyond my capabilities. Especially now that the weather is cooling down and my bed is cozy warm from the electric blanket, I would so much rather drink that third cup of coffee while watching the Today show.

    4. Housework. The only clean rooms in my house are the ones that don’t get used.

    5. And ‘ditto’ to most everyone else.

  13. Helen Says:

Housework is my biggest pain I do not like it
    Making myself go to work
Washing dishes don’t like that either
All these things interfere with my reading time and the time I spend on the internet need more hours in the day for me.
    Have Fun
    Helen

  14. Margo Maguire Says:

Crystal - Oh yeah - that morning thing! I actually like mornings, but I know what you mean about getting out of a cozy bed. It’s so hard to do!

And Helen - Ditto on the things that interfere with reading time. If only we could make them all go away!

  15. Shana Says:

For me it’s being positive. I can get cynical and negative very easily, so I struggle every day to be positive.

  16. Margo Maguire Says:

That surprises me, Shane - you always strike me as being so upbeat and organized!

  17. ladydawgfan Says:

Daily challenges, hmm? Lemme see . . .

    - My 5:30AM wakeup call. I am NOT a morning person!!

    - Finding meals that are low or no fat and still taste good and are filling (damned gallstones!)

    - Getting enough rest. I’m tired of constantly being tired.

    - Finding time to read for pleasure when I am overtired.
