Common Ground
Written by Cindy Kirk in Jaunty PostI was listening to a tape from an old conference and it was on male-female communication styles. It talked about when women meet they always try to find common ground…that’s how they bond.
I got to thinking about it…and realized that now that my child is grown (no kid stuff to talk about)…it’s now pets that I use to find that common ground.
Today I attended the Kiss of Death chapter’s retreat….and I know this seems unbelievable but three of us at one table owned a Shih Tzu….
Last week I met a new person at work and she noticed the picture of Ernie the Shih Tzu that I had at my desk…and you guessed it…she had a Shih Tzu too!
For those of you not lucky enough to own a Shih Tzu

I’m not lucky enough to own a Shih Tzu…they are cute little packages but my cat might enjoy slapping one around..I think compliments about shoes or something else you’re wearing can lead to common ground with another woman.

I don’t have kids, but cats work well. If someone doesn’t have a cat, they talk about their dog, which is fun to hear about. Usually once you start talking you find other things in common. Differences can be interesting, too!
Haven Rich Says:
I agree, cats. But also, romance novels is a huge one too.
Georgie Lee Says:
I don’t have kids yet so like you, I find common ground with dogs. My other common ground is movies. Being in Los Angeles, movies are the most common of common grounds.
Kate Diamond Says:
Education.
I’m a teacher. And almost everyone has been to school–whether it was good or bad, they almost always want to tell you SOMETHING about it.
Amanda Says:
I usually bond with others through common activities…reading, writing, walking, boating, whatever I may enjoy. I love to bond with woman over common activities because then we can always find something to do together.
AndreaW Says:
For me, it’s kids.
Margo Maguire Says:
It’s either kids, pets, or work (nursing or writing). And I find a LOT of people who want to write! That gets them going almost every time.
