The Fall T.V. Season is here!

Written by Kimberly Logan in Jaunty Post

So, now that some of the new shows have debuted and returning shows have had their premieres, what do you think? Have you found any new favorites, any duds? Were you completely wowed by a show that you were looking forward to or totally underwhelmed?

I have to admit, I’ve been pretty disappointed so far. Both Journeyman and Moonlight failed to hold my attention, though I’ll probably give them another chance. Journeyman was just much too slow for me, and while the lead in Moonlight is good-looking, something about him just doesn’t appeal to me. Maybe it’s that I keep comparing him to David Boreanaz as Angel, a character and a show I liked much better and still miss. (Sniff-sniff) Private Practice was okay, but just meh. I’ve never been a big Gray’s fan, so we’ll see. Reaper was funny and I love Kevin Smith, but Gossip Girl…I wasn’t impressed.

I didn’t dislike everything, however. I enjoyed Bionic Woman, though I’m not sure why. Pure, mindless butt-kicking maybe? LOL. And I’m still holding out hope for the new Christina Applegate show that hasn’t premiered yet. Of course, there is also the premiere of Lost to look forward to.

What about you? What shows have you liked so far?

P.S. The boys are back! Sorry, I just had to throw that in. ;) Did anyone else catch last night’s Supernatural premiere? Sigh…

  1. Haven Rich Says:

I’ve been watching Grey’s and Dancing with the Stars. I get a whole three hours of tv time a week lol.

  2. Clarisse Says:

I watched the premier of Pushing Daisies and I really liked it. The writing was smart and the chemistry between the leads was achingly sweet. I assume that means it will be gone by November. LOL

The miniseries on World War II on PBS by Ken Burns was every bit as riveting as the Civil War and Baseball ones were so I am happy about that.

  3. Shana Galen Says:

I ahven’t really caught many of the shows. I saw Back to You with Kelsey Grammar, but I didn’t think it was that great. I wanted to watch Pushing Daisies, but I had to work. When does the new season of The Dog Whisperer start?

  4. Taryn Raye Says:

Yep Yep, I watched Supernatural last night. Gotta love them(but then, I’m a Jensen Ackles fan from his years on Days-yes a DOOL fan here-only soap I watch-been watching since I was 5- 27 yrs minus when Marlena was possessed)

I’m enjoying the new episodes of Bones, House and Ugly Betty and Ghost Hunters. Wasn’t all that impressed with Moonlight either and I don’t guess I’ve watched any of the other new shows since most interfere with something else we’d normally be watching. I can’t wait for Men In Trees to come back…supposedly October 12th. Yay! (gotta love a show about a writer!)

  5. Robyn DeHart Says:

As far as new shows, I’ve caught Life, which I think is a rather intriguing show as well as Big Shots, with all it’s eye candy is pretty darn funny. We TIVOed Pushing Daisies, but haven’t been able to watch it yet. The Professor thinks The Big Boom Theory is hysterical, I find it humorous, but he just laughs through the whole thing. We also watched Moonlight and while I thought the dialogue was cheesy and the other actors weren’t great, the lead, I think pulled it off. Not sure if we’ll watch it every week, but I suspect it might get better.

  6. Rainy Says:

What would I do without TiVo? (Probably have a life!)
I did like Pushing Daisies (the voice over sounded like one in the Lemony Snickett movie). Missed the first Moonlight but I’m not sure whether I should try it or not, reviews seemed mixed. Besides, there is an overload of Sci-Fi Fantasy stuff on my list.
I liked Journeyman. It sort of reminds me of the time traveling show with Scott Baluka back in the 80’s (?).
Heros…I think I’m getting tired of it and not sure whether I care if they save the cheerleader or not anymore.
Smallville is still great and Clark’s got a cousin from Krypton…and she can fly while he still can’t!

  7. Linda Says:

Out of all the new shows I’ve watched Moonlight, Gossip Girl, and K-Ville. I thought that Moonlight started really good & that Mick and Beth had a great chemistry.

Gossip Girl is a show straight from my heart :) I have a soft spot for shows all full of teen angst.

K-Ville I caught on accidnet & really enjoyed. It follows 2 cops in New Orleans after Katrina. The fact that it has Cole Hauser in doesn’t hurt either.

And, of course my never miss shows..Smallville & Supernatural. I thought that they both kicked off thier seasons in a big way. How are Winchester boys are going to get Dean out of his deal without killing Sam ? And, Smallville’s addition of Supergirl is going to be very intersting.

  8. Shirley Karr Says:

I’ve tried a few of the new shows but haven’t been too impressed so far. Nothing’s caught me like Burn Notice did, a summer series on USA. Big Bang has potential, given the people behind it, and it certainly has more intelligent dialogue than we’re usually treated to in sit-coms, at least when they’re doing geek-speak.

Have enjoyed the return of House and NCIS (did anyone see that coming re: Tony’s love life/undercover role?), and I’d almost forgotten how much fun it is to watch James Spader and William Shatner on Boston Legal.

Am really glad CSI didn’t kill off Sarah though odds are Jorja Fox is leaving anyway. I think it’s a David Caruso/NYPD Blue move on her part, but well see.

  9. Robyn DeHart Says:

I loved Burn Notice this summer, Shirley, which then reminded me that we’d also been watching Chuck the last two weeks and it has a similar tone as Burn Notice, although only in the comedy meets high action sort of way. It’s pretty good so far, but I’m already missing Michael and Fiona. *sigh*

  10. Stacy S Says:

I watched Heroes. I like that one. Bionic Woman I’ve watched, but I’m not real sure on that one. Will have to give it a couple more trys.

  11. Clarisse Says:

I did catch the CSI opener and I, for one, was hoping Sara would buy the farm. Then we could have a year of Grissolm quietly coming unraveled and then ultimately we could pair him up with the S&M Madam from a few seasons back. They were perfect together - both uniquely tuned to what makes people tick. Grissolm is too complex a guy to be with Sara (with apologies to anyone who thinks they are perfect together).

  12. brownone Says:

I get four hours per week: House, Gray’s Anatomy, ER, and Desperate Housewives…that’s it. When Lost comes back, it’ll be bumped up to five. So far so good…I’m gonna miss ER!!

  13. Kimberly Logan Says:

So you enjoyed Pushing Daisies, Clarisse? I have to admit, the commercials kind of put me off that one before it even started, so I didn’t even bother to watch. Now I’m hearing some great reviews on it, so I may have to give it a try. :)

LOL on Gossip Girl, Linda. I guess after years of teen dramas like Dawson’s Creek, I’m just angsted out. I’m also what you might call very character focused. It doesn’t matter how great the storyline is, if I don’t care for any of the actors or actresses on a show after the first couple of episodes, I’m out of there. None of the characters on GG grabbed me, so I just couldn’t get into it.

I saw Life, Robyn, but found the lead just a bit too…weird. I know that’s supposed to be part of the show’s concept, but it just didn’t work for me. Which is a shame, because I usually do like the crime dramas.

And Taryn, I loved Jensen on Days of Our Lives too. I can remember thinking he was on to bigger and better things when he left. He’s a very talented actor who never really got the chance to shine on DOOL. Dean has given him a part that he can really sink his teeth into!

  14. Laura Says:

Well, I was disappointed in Back to You with Kelsey Grammar. I had set my DVR to record Gossip Girl but have deleted everything without seeing it (DVR space issue) and reading the comments above, I think I can turn the auto record off on that one.

I was all ready to blow off Grey’s this season (after last season) but they’ve already hooked me back.

Oh, and I’m a big Dancing with the Stars fan. Been loving it so far. :)

  15. Clarisse Says:

KIm, I did like Pushing Daisies. The premise of his “gift” is fairly straightforward, the whole setup is nicely tongue-in-cheek and the hero and heroine are so sweet. It’s original and I can’t really compare it to anything else. I think it either speaks to you or it doesn’t though. So I may be the only person on the planet who liked it. :)

  16. Rainy Says:

Clarisse…re Pushing Daisies, My husband and I both liked it so that makes three of us on the planet.
I forgot to mention “Dirty, Sexy Money” which sounds like a tabloid show but it’s got some interesting characters and is well-written. Worth a check out.

  17. AP Says:

I also was not impressed by the new Kelsey Grammer show. I have started to watch Brothers & Sisters. I had not seen it last season. But that’s it for me as far as night time tv.

  18. Mary Says:

New shows I’ve watched - Reaper, Moonlight, Bionic Woman, Big Shots. I haven’t seen any of them twice.

Grey’s has me pulled back in, too, but they better get rid of the George/Izzie story SOON or I’m going to hurl.

Best season premiere - My Name is Earl. AWESOME. (I know, you thought I’d say Supernatural - that’s third after Friday Night Lights.) Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are my TV nights.
