RWA National

Written by RobynDeHart in Writers and Writing

So how many of you are going to National this year? What are you looking forward to the most? Have you picked our your workshops yet? I love doing my schedule right before conference and going to workshops when I get a chance. It’s one of my most favorite times of year. And now since I live way over here, it’s become extra special because it’s a time I can spend with my mom (cause she goes every year and we room together) and my friends. So how about it? Anyone getting excited?

  1. Clarisse Says:

I am super excited as this is my first conference. I have a little spreadsheet that I keep adding things to. There are a couple of classes I am really interested in and I am mostly just looking forward to finally meeting people I have formed friendships with on-line.

How cool is that that you attend and room with your mom? {{wink! wink!}} I think we need to plan a moms-of-authors event. Maybe your mom and I could sponsor that (translation: she and I will go have a drink together and maybe a couple of other moms will join us :)

  2. Kathryn Smith Says:

I’m always excited to see the people I haven’t seen for a year or more. This year I’m shacking up with Adele Ashworth, which is always more fun than should be legal.

I’ve picked out some workshops and like Clarisse, (who I cannot wait to meet!) I have a spreadsheet of all the things I want/need to do. It’s rapidly filling in!

Oh, here’s a Type A thing I do — I plan out my clothing and pack each outfit in a plastic bag tagged with the day of the week I want to wear it!

  3. Clarisse Says:

That tagged packing actually sounds like a good idea, Kate. My problem is I tend to either over pack or under pack. (and I cannot wait to meet you either, Love!)

  4. Buffie Says:

Wish I was going, but won’t be able to make it. I can’t wait for the day when I actually get to go to one of these!!!

I’m sure you all will have a wonderful time!

  5. Robyn DeHart Says:

Oy! Kate, we must have been separated at birth. I totally plan my clothes out and pack them in plastic baggies - makes packing easier too. And I’ve got my spreadsheet started, but not yet complete.

Clarisse, yes, mom and I have been going to National for years. I don’t think it will be much longer before she sells. Fingers crossed.

  6. Clarisse Says:

Robyn, are there any mother-daughter published authors out there already that you know of? Just curious.

  7. Lois Says:

I soooooooooooooooo wish I were. . . I mean, that list of people who are scheduled to be there for the signing, oh boy. Well, maybe one day. :)

    Lois

  8. Margo Maguire Says:

I used to think of Conference as my Great Escape - a few days away from the kids. I love ‘em dearly, but it was always nice to have a few days to myself!

Now, I just enjoy connecting with other writers and friends who I get to see only once a year. It’s great!

  9. Robyn DeHart Says:

Clarisse, yes, there are a few. A few who write together - I think Nicole Byrd is a mother/daughter team. And then Judith French and her daughter write separately, but now I can’t remember her daughter’s name.

  10. Clarisse Says:

    Very cool.

Are there any sisters who write professionally as teams or separately?

  11. RobynDeHart Says:

I’m sure there must be, Clarisse, but I’m not familiar with any.

  12. Clarisse Says:

I put the question up on the Avon Board - bet we get some interesting answers there :)

  13. Haven Rich Says:

Isn’t Dixie Cash a sister/sister team? I could be wrong.

I’m going, have my spreadsheet started. I’m most looking forward to the Beau Monde events.

Clothing..oh yes, I’ve got a few outfits *read as a lot*. I don’t put them in bags, but I always couple the outfits that I’ll wear on certain days. So when you open my suitcase, you’ll see complete outfits all nestled together.

I also like to over pack a bit, this way I’m ready for anything. Plus if my disease acts up, I have clothing that can be ready at a moments notice. When the stomach is hurting, you don’t exactly want to wear something a bit tighter around the middle.

Anyhow..I think it’s wonderful that the Author Mom’s United *wink* are attending this year! Maybe after I’m published I can sweet talk my mom into attending with me.

  14. Haven Rich Says:

Oh I forgot to ask, what is everyone doing on the 10th..for those that will be there already.

  15. AndreaW Says:

Oh, I wish I was going. *sniff* I met most of the Jaunty Quills last year, but there are so many others I’d love to meet. I hope most/all of you will be there in SF next year, ’cause I will be and I’d love to meet/see you again! :D

  16. Lacey Says:

me me me me me!!! Can’t wait to see everyone again, and the new faces (like Haven’s!)!!

  17. Haven Rich Says:

    Honey, my face isn’t new hehe, it’s 30 years old..almost 31 haha. Sorry, I couldn’t resist!
