Lost it

Written by Shirley Karr in Jaunty Post

So how’s everyone enjoying finale season so far? I like how they handled the Sarah/Grissom thing on CSI (and I certainly hope Jorja Fox resolves her contract dispute and comes back next season). I continue to be amazed that House and Wilson are on speaking terms let alone still friends, and can’t they let Cuddy wear clothes that fit instead of a wardrobe that’s one size too small? On NCIS, I’ve enjoyed watching DiNozzo’s character growth all season. Wasn’t that an ooh! of a final scene?

But enough with the small talk. I just watched the season ender of Lost, and must vent with people who won’t say “it’s just a show” like my husband did. I won’t give it all away in case you had something more important to do and recorded the show instead of watching it live (though y’all know *I* don’t think there’s anything of importance going on until 8 pm tonight and yes of course I already have tickets, but I realize not everyone shares my priorities).

Where was I? Oh yeah … honked off at the writers of Lost. Locke is beginning to seriously annoy me (is he so deluded he thinks they’ll live peacefully wth him on the island after what he just did in front of 40 witnesses?), and don’t even get me started on WimpyJack of the off-island flashes. I might be more forgiving once they show us his motivation for such behavior, though of course that’s another of the myriad secrets they’re keeping. (On the plus side, go Hurley! Atta boy!) But when it comes to what they did with Charlie…

They tried to make it seem noble or heroic, but please, it was just plain TSTL. There were other options available. Believable, viable options that seemed painfully obvious even in the circumstances they created. If they needed the same end result, there were other ways to achieve it. With all that Charlie’s been through and the way he’s grown –- surviving an attempted hanging from Ethan, kicking the drug addiction, making a pseudo-family with Claire — he deserves smarter writing.

What do you think?

Sigh. I hate to say it, Shirley, but I have become just a bit more disenchanted with Lost with each episode. Once they came back from their long hiatus at a later time, I ended up recording a lot of the episodes rather than watching it live as I used to. Don’t get me wrong. I still enjoy it and there are still several bright spots. But they have gone for too long without giving anyone any solid answers. And last night’s eppy really got my dander up for all the reasons you cited above and then some. As I mentioned in my last blog, the whole Desmond/Charlie thing really had me scratching my head. And I want the old Jack back! :(

On the plus side, the season finale of Supernatural kicked posterior! And they are officially getting another season. Yay! My Winchester Boys live on! (Although I wish the CW would move them out of that killer Thursday night time slot. Oh well. I guess you can’t have everything)

I’m with you on the Charlie issue. I started out not liking him in the beginnings of the show. But as has been mentioned he had really grown as a character.

The only thing I can buy for that final scene to make any sense is that Charlie closed the door because he believed Desmond really could see the future and thus if he didn’t follow through on that future it would have major repercussions.

Personally, I just wish they’d off Kate and Jack. Those two irritate the hell out of me. Kate using Sawyer ticks me off, and for me Jack’s too little too late to the party in becoming a leader. Give me Sayid any day as a rockn’ leader! God that man is hawt!

Shirley, I’d love to comment but I don’t watch the show. Our TV is tuned permanently to ESPN, Fox Sports, or–when I get a hold of the remote–Animal Planet. So I can’t tell you anything about Lost, but I can tell you that the Astros lost last night, the Rockets have a new head coach, and the Houston SPCA rescued a kitten from a car engine.

Lol, Shane! That’s why we bought a second TV years ago and put it in the kitchen. No more arguments about what to watch. And with the cable DVR, there’s even less conflict, other than a surplus of good stuff on Thursdays at 9. Kim, I promise to give your Winchester boys a try during summer reruns. :)

I think last night’s ep really bothered me because I’m still ticked off at Heroes. Guys sacrificing themselves for no good reason seems to be a theme this spring, because Peter was perfectly capable of flying all by himself — no need for Nathan to carry him to the stratosphere. Lovely demonstration of brotherly devotion, but now how am I supposed to get my Adrian Pasdar fix?

Let’s face it, Lost hasn’t been really great since the first season. Once they found the hatch it began to go downhill. And Locke has been annoying for oh-so-long, IMO. And after last night’s finale, I just don’t know what direction they’re planning to go in, but it sure doesn’t look like one I want to follow. We’ll see.

Oh, and Shirley, we have tickets for tonight too. So kind of Johnny to open this little movie on my b-day week. *sigh*

Urgh, Shirley! And here after talking about season enders and finally getting interested in Heroes, I missed the last episode! Did they kill off Peter and Nathan both?

And I don’t know, Robyn. I was really liking the first half of Lost this season. (Sawyer and Kate in a cage equals…well, you know. ;) ) But the last half wasn’t quite as riveting for me.

Shirley, I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT LOST. SPOILER ALERT! I’m so intrigued by the time issue. I admit I read Lostpedia (I’m a total TV whore about the shows I love - primarily Lost and 24) and it’s patently obvious there’s some sort of time altering/traveling/tweaking/I dunno! going on. Did you know the name of the company Juliet works for, Mittelos Bioscience, is an anagram for Lost Time (and the producers admit this)? I just can’t get my head around it. I figured out the flash forward thing fairly early on (and then the phone he uses is a dead giveaway) and I’m not convinced Chahlie is dead. I agree with Monica - he did what he thought he HAD to in order to ensure Claire’s rescue. The thing is, Des didn’t actually SEE him DIE. He saw what we saw and from where I’m sitting, Charlie just needs to get his butt out the portal and float up to the surface. Or, Des will throw open the door and drag him out. They have time to get the diving equipment before the station fills. So many options. But we won’t know which one they choose until 2008. If we find out. I’m beginning to wonder if next season will take place AFTER they’ve been rescued with flashbacks to the rescue events. Okay, I’ll stop using this as a speculation board, LOL.

Oh, and I loved the CSI finale. I know some people say there’s no chemistry between Gil and Sara, but I disagree!

    I agree. What is TSTL?

I havent watched all of the Lost episodes, so my girlfriend filled me in and she guessed a lot of things that happened last nite.

Does anyone know who it was that died in that newspaper clipping?

  9. Shirley Karr Says:

TSTL = too stupid to live

  10. Mary Says:

See, I LOVED the LOST finale. They surprised me again and again, like they used to. I thought it was WAY better than Supernatural, and I love Supernatural.

I loved Sawyer shooting Mr. Friendly. I loved the flash forward twist (except for the beard - gah!). I LOVED Charlie taunting the women, and just when we think he defeated Desmond’s premonition, tap-tap!

    It was great!
