Fun vacation things

These are pictures from the Sunset Beach Bar in St. Maarten. The bar is a great little tourist trap on the island where you can watch the planes land all day. I took these pictures using my camera’s continuous take feature. :D

It’s a one of a kind type of spot. Drink your margarita or your Carib and watch the 747′s buzz your ponytail. Or stand on the sand during takeoff and get an insta-shave. :D

Is there somewhere you’ve visited that had a very unique trait? Or have you ever done anything really crazy on a vacation?

I put together a little flash movie of the whole thing too. You can see it by clicking here. :D

Wow! That must have been loud. I can’t believe how low that plane is. I don’t think I’ve ever been to somewhere with anything that unique.

Wow, Anne! That looks like something right out of LOST. How freaky.

That is insane. What if the pilot shorts it????? Also, ear damage anyone. Wow. That’s so freaky-deaky.

I’ve never done anything completely crazy on a vacation that I can think of. I’ve defintely never had the ‘plane landing on your head’ experience. LOL

Anne, my love, I’m assuming this trip was for research purposes? LOLOLOL!! I shall be looking for that hot pirate novel coming soon.

When dh and I went to St.Thomas/St. John’s, V.I. last summer, the landing strip is very scary. It’s ocean, ocean, ocean, closer, closer, closer, ocean, then LAND! It works the nerves. :D

BTW~ dh is in St. John’s as I’m writing this “on business”…the poor beggar.

    Wow, great shots!

For crazy things, I chased a shark in Belize. Does that count?

The first time a jet went overhead like that, I probably would have soiled something!!! And I live a block away from an airport where ANG jets take off at all hours, too!!!

The craziest thing I’ve ever done on vacation: wellllll, I was in Quebec City walking the boardwalk with a friend when a street mime came behind me and poked me in the ribs, causing me to jump. My devilish side took over and I walked up behind him, reached over as I walked by, and grabbed a handful of buttcheek, surprising him back!! I didn’t realize at the time that a crowd of onlookers was watching the whole episode from a nearby pavilion until I heard a huge burst of laughter and then applause!!! And I got a grin and a wink from the street mime, too!! :)

My friend just laughed and shook her head at me and said “I can’t take you anywhere, can I??” And I’m usually such a shy, demure person, too . . .

They can come in REALLY low too. I guess our plane looked like it nearly clipped the fence, it was that low. :D

Jenna, the runway is long, but yeah, shorting it would not be good! You can see the planes coming for a good while though, so if something crazy was going to happen, there would probably be fair warning. You know, screams, general mayhem, that sort of thing. ;)

Has anyone been to St. Bart’s? Their airstrip runs downhill right into the sea. Not sure what they were thinking…

Viv! My Mom keeps poking me for the pirate novel in St. Maarten too. :D

Your poor dh…I feel very bad for him down in the perfect Caribbean sun! :D

And I can see you peeking under a few kilts – “Nice buns!”

Geez louise, that’s scary and very cool at the same time. I wouldn’t want to be under (scary) but to watch the planes come in elsewhere (very cool!) :) Guess they didn’t plan very well on something they built there. LOL :)

    Wow on that plane.
We took a cruise and stopped and took horses(I don’t ride) up a mountain to see the citadel(fort) in Haiti. One of the guides made me trade horses with him (no english) and that horse fell on the way down! I almost went over a cliff (while the guides laughed). I had a cut under my armpit for the rest of the cruise (walked around with my arm in the air lol).

Lois, I’ve stood under them – it’s very cool!

Take off is what you have to watch out for…my Dad saw a guy blown heels over head into the water from the thrust. I guess that happens pretty frequently when one of the big boys goes off right from the first rev. I had my camera poised for one of the 747′s takeoff, but alas, the pilot took off slowly and all the tourists were still standing. ;)

    Anne,
I like the way that sounds. Do tell me it will be in the pirate novel. :D Sounds verry..ahem..stimulating.

Thanks, Andrea! I really like my camera. It’s a Canon SD400 – pocket sized and very reliable. :)
