  1. Anne Mallory Says:

Best Pic: The Departed (I just changed this from Little Miss Sunshine - I vacillate hourly! Watch, Babel will win, lol)
Best Director: Martin Scorsese (I think a pin will drop in the audience if he doesn’t win)
    Best Actor: Forest Whitaker
    Best Actress: Helen Mirren
    Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy
    Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson
    Screenplay Original: Little Miss Sunshine
Screenplay Adapted: Borat (going out on a limb with this one, Departed is the clear fave)
    Animated: Cars
    Documentary: An Inconvenient Truth
    Foreign: Pan’s Labyrinth (Go, Pan!)
    Cinematography: Pan’s Labyrinth
    Art Direction: Pan’s Labyrinth
    Editing: The Departed
    Visual FX: Pirates
    Costume Design: Dreamgirls
    Makeup: Pan’s Labyrinth
    Sound Mixing: Dreamgirls
    Sound Editing: Iwo Jima
Original Score: Pan’s Labyrinth (should be The Fountain - can’t believe it wasn’t nominated)
Original Song: Listen from Dreamgirls (Beyonce)
    Animated Short: Little Matchgirl
Live Action Short: Binta (haven’t seen any of them, went for the one with the longest title)
Documentary Short: Yingzhou (see reason for above)

Yeah, those are all real stretches. *yawn* It just doesn’t seem like a year for upsets, but one never knows!!! I was very tempted to pick Alan Arkin for supporting as a flyer. :D Pan’s probably won’t take all of those, but I really liked it. I will be rabidly cheering for Pan’s, Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed. I enjoyed all three. :) I haven’t seen the other best pic nominees yet. *hangs head* Will have to remedy that!

  2. AndreaW Says:

I really hope Kate Winslet wins Best Actress. She has such incredible talent. The role she is nominated for wasn’t an impersonation like Helen’s role (sorry guys!), but Kate actually became the woman she portrayed…flesh and blood. She’s just fantastic.

And I’m also rooting for Jennifer Hudson! I loved her on American Idol, and I’ll never forget that she was voted off on April 21, 2004…a mere hour and a half after my daughter was born. lol She really deserves it.

  3. Melissa Says:

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE was excellent! I hope it wins best picture.

  4. Pat L. Says:

Unfortunately I havent seen any of the nominated movies but I think Ellen will do very well. I like her very much.

I think Jennfer Hudson, Helen Mirren, Eddie Murphy, Forrest Whitaker and Little Miss Sunshine will win the majors.

I love see the dresses and hope everything will be elegant. Scarlet ? last name slips my mind, Hillary Swank and Sandra Bullock will probably look very nice.

  5. Pat L. Says:

If I may Post this here - Alison Kent has a blog giveaway - she is giving away 30 copies of her upcoming March release - see her post for Feb. 24 for details. You have to have a blog, either reader or author.

  6. Isabel Says:

I also want Kate Winslet to win, she’s been nominated so many times over the last ten years. That’s says something, she’s a very talented actress. I want Jennifer Hudson to win, she embodies “dreams come true” and she is talented.
Best Picture will go to The Departed - everyone was GOOD in that movie, everyone.
    Best Director: Martin Scorsese
    Best Actor: Forrest Whitaker
    Best Supporting: Mark Walghberg (sp)

  7. Anne Mallory Says:

I would LOVE to see Kate Winslet win. Love, love, love. But I just don’t think this is her year to take it home. :(

  8. Robyn DeHart Says:

I’m pulling for anything with Dreamgirls - I loved it. Jennifer Hudson better win and I’d love to see them take original song, but the last few years they’ve really done strange ones for that. Little Miss Sunshine, is the only one up for best picture that I’ve actually seen this year. It’s been an off year for me. I didn’t see The Departed b/c I don’t usually like gangster type films, but I’m agreeing with Anne about Scorsese winning - don’t you think he looks like one of those eyebrows/glasses/nose masks that you can wear? I’d like to see Forrest Whitaker win simply b/c he’s so very talented and every interview I’ve seen him in since his nomination he’s been totally humble. I never made it to the Queen, but I adore Helen Mirren, then again I love Kate Winslet and Judi Dench. *sigh* I’m just excited. I love the glitz and the glamor and all that jazz.

  9. Lois Says:

Well, I’m not one that goes out on limbs (coward, I know) but my sure-fire one is probably going to be Helen Mirren. I never saw the movie, but you almost figure if she got every other award out there, why not the Oscar? LOL :)

    Lois

  10. catslady Says:

I was hoping Leonardo DiCaprio would win but I think he will probably cancel himself out.

  11. Teresa W. Says:

My picks are as follows: Picture-The Departed Actor-Forest Whitaker Actress-Helen Mirren Supporting Actor-Eddie Murphy Supporting Actress-Jennifer Hudson Director-Martin Scorsese

  12. Shana Says:

I don’t know. Sadly, I haven’t seen many nominated movies this year. I’ll be lucky to watch an hour or two of the show.

  13. Anne Mallory Says:

ARGH! I should have gone with that gut pick and taken Alan Arkin. Ah well, that’s part of the Oscar fun. Back to watching!

  14. Shana Says:

Al Gore on the Oscars! I love it–in a non-political way, of course…

  15. Anne Mallory Says:

    I scored 15 of 24. :D

Another night of Oscar fun! I liked the broadcast. Ellen was funny and light, the crazy dancers were cool, I’m a big fan of the montages (though I know they kill other people), the trio of Will, Jack and John singing to Helen Mirren made me laugh…so all in all, a nice Oscar night for me. :D

  16. AndreaW Says:

I think Ellen did a great job. She was hilarious. Great night (except Kate didn’t win…AGAIN) and there were lots of surprises. Glad Jennifer Hudson won. :D

  17. Robyn DeHart Says:

I thought Ellen did great too - she’s so funny. I loved when she brought the script to Scorsese and then when she wanted a picture with Clint. She was a total hoot. Jennifer Hudson and Forrest Whitaker gave great, honest speeches. I didn’t have a favorite of the dresses - what was up with the asymmetrical sleeve/strap thing, saw that on several dresses?

One complaint though, regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, I always get irritated when Hollywood takes nights like this and uses them to make a statement. Not the Al Gore stuff, cause that was funny. But the montage done by Mann that was supposed to be about where America had been in film and instead was a protest against the war. It’s just not the time or place. In my opinion, at least.

  18. Shana Says:

I thought the fashion seemed very Roman-inspired. Hollywood’s version of Roman fashion, anyway. the dresses seemed to drape like togas and have that flowy material.

I did like all the talk about global warming, but that’s kind of my thing, so maybe I was just happy to see the problem getting so much attention. I don’t think I saw the anti-war montage.

  19. Kathryn Says:

So, who thought Hugh Jackman was the hottest, most suave looking man there? Whew! Mark Wahlberg didn’t look too shabby either.

I loved Cate Blanchett’s dress, as well as Penelope Cruz’s dress. Couldn’t stand Nicole Kidman’s huge bow, at first I though she had a cape coming off — it ruined an otherwise stunning and elegant dress. And while I liked Jennifer Hudson’s dress, I couldn’t stand the little bolero or the hands in the pockets of her dress. Rinko Kukichi’s dress was lovely too.

  20. Shirley Karr Says:

Egads, almost four hours long?!? And I watched every minute of it! :-) Loved the dancers, could have done without the back-to-back songs. Loved the Jack Black/Will Farrell/John song. I enjoyed the speeches most that were not just a littany of names being thanked. As Ellen said, it’s not that we don’t have time for long speeches, we just don’t have time for boring ones. :-)

The most powerful moment of the night for me was seeing George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola on stage together — brought tears to my eyes. (Yes, my dh also thought it was a bizarre reaction.) Must be the massive amount of success, talent and insight they collectively represent. Talk about heavy hitters!

The burning question today is… was Clint really translating Italian for us, or was he reading a TelePrompter? :-)

  21. Anne Mallory Says:

My vote is for the teleprompter. He looked at it and stumbled over one word. Though, to give him credit, it could have been half and half with him translating and he was looking at the prompter to make sure of something. :)

  22. Anne Mallory Says:

Kathryn, not only was he suave and hot, he was also a gentleman. I think he was the only man who offered his arm to his partner in the pairs that didn’t walk together from the start - ie. the pairs that started at separate entrances and met in the middle. The others just walked by themselves to the microphone.

And I’m the first to admit I’d probably forget to do all sorts of things in that type of situation - my nerves would be all over the place - but it says something about his charisma that he DID think about it and do it. :)

I thought he was adorable, as usual. :D

  23. Kimberly Logan Says:

Ack, I can’t believe I missed it! I was so dead beat after getting back from my trip late Saturday night/early Sunday morning that I spent most of yesterday sleeping. Oh, well. I can’t say I was too into it this year anyway. Maybe next year.
