Finally, we actually got some winter around here! It was an ice storm that lasted two days (but wasn’t as bad as the one farther west). On top of that were a couple of inches of snow, and it’s cold, too, so nothing is melting.
So how do you get through the January/February Doldrums? Around here, it’s a good book or movie. I used to read The Lord of the Rings every February. It was great to sit by the fire and drink tea and immerse myself in the journey, but I think I’ve overdosed – I read it once too many times, and after the movies came out, well … Let’s just say I’ve had enough of Hobbit adventures for awhile. I loved Harry Potter, but I don’t think I could re-read those books (although I’m anxious to see how the series wraps up!)
There are some great movies to re-watch, too. Groundhog Day with Bill Murray is perfect for this time of year. Or Castaway if you’d rather dive into the tropics. Or how about those old romantic comedies with Rock Hudson and Doris Day, or Cary Grant in Monkey Business or To Catch a Thief, An Affair to Remember - Ahhhh…. How about You’ve Got Mail. The Star Wars movies are always fun for an escape, or the Alien movies – I’ve been rewatching those since they seem to be on cable every time I happen to sit down in front of the TV!
Besides walking my dogs, I find myself pretty much cocooned inside these days. What about you? What are you doing to get through the winter and keep the kids from going stir crazy?

Oh, now see, the Harry Potter books are the only books I’ve re-read as an adult. I used to re-read books at lot as a kid, but now, I don’t know, I always hesitate. But those work for me everytime.
So far I haven’t been as cold this year as I was last year and having grown up in TX and then moving to TN, we really don’t get winter the way that y’all do up north. I mean it gets cold here and we get snow and ice on ocassion, but the snow rarely sticks.
But if I were dealing with the doldrums, I would definitely curl up with a Teresa Medieros or a Judith Ivory or a Suzanne Enoch (I still have some I haven’t read!) with a nice cup of peppermint tea and a kitty in my lap. Sounds nice…

Well, we don’t have much winter here in Houston. My family is originally from Michigan, like you Margo, and that’s one of the reasons we left. My mom couldn’t stand the long winters. It was cold and icy here on Wednesday, but it didn’t really stop us from doing anything we normally do. USF and I did watch a movie and have some hot chocolate.

My cure for the winter doldrums is to curl up and watch movies. This past weekend when it was wintry out, my son and I watched the LOTR trilogy. The extended movies, no less! I hadn’t seen them in a while and wanted to go revisit them. I love the scenery and well, Aragorn, Legolas and Eomer aren’t too bad on the eyes either!
If I don’t watch movies, I usually read a book. And with either there is always a cup of hot chocolate or tea.
*sigh* kinda wish I was doing that now instead of sitting here at my desk at work. lol

I read and watch movies. Of course, I read year ’round. lol But, I’ve found that my hubby and I rent more movies during the winter. We love to be outside with the kids, but none of us like the cold.

Well, my routine’s really not all that different from a regular day, computer, read, tv. LOL SOunds sad, actually. LOL But I’ve learned once I got into college that nope, they didn’t take off for every day that a snowflake showed up like they did in high school. Pooh.
LOL

My cure for the winter doldrums was to winter in Florida! Here, people get winter doldrums when it turns 60 outside.
But whether it’s a rainy, cool day down here or a down right nasty one in Vermont, I enjoy nestling on the couch with whatever book I’ve got on hand. Also, I love to make a really great dinner or maybe some hearty soup. (When it’s hot,you tend to barbecue a lot, or cook quickies on the stove).
