My Favorite Songs

Many radio stations start playing Christmas songs the day after Thanksgiving. As the month has progressed I’ve realized that there are certain songs that I love to hear. When they come on the radio I turn it up or I flip the stations hoping to hear one of my favorites.

The ones that get the radio turned up are: Mary, Did You Know?….All I Want for Christmas is You…Let There Be Peace on Earth…December Makes Me Feel This Way…Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)

And it wouldn’t feel like Christmas if I didn’t hear “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” and “The Twelve Pains of Christmas”

All of these put me in the Christmas spirit….about time since the big day is just around the corner. :)

What songs do you like to hear? Are there any ones that get you in the spirit?

Hey, and how about our $20 club from a couple weeks ago….who’s given out some Christmas cheer in the past week???

I love Ruldolph, Little Drummer Boy and Do You Hear What I hear. I’m not religious, but I still love those last two. BUt I haaaaaaate Silent Night, albeit when it’s sung. I don’t mind instrumental. LOL

My daughter is a {beginner) social worker and she asked us to adopt one of her families. The mom is 23, the dad 25 and they have two kids, ages 2 and 4. They don’t have much, and they both just lost their jobs. My husband and I gladly took them on, with gifts for the kids, and even a couple of things for the parents. We told her to say that they’d received an anonymous donation at their office and she was given some of it to use on them.

Holiday songs? I was just listening to ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ and getting a big kick out of it. Listen to the words – it’s the personification of Venus vs. Mars.:)

Oh where to begin? For carols I like O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Carol of the Bells and Joy to the World. Contemporary? Bruce Springsteen’s Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Walking in a Winter Wonderland and Melissa Etheridge singing Do They Know It’s Christmas.

I love John Lennon’s song, “And so this is Christmas….” Well, that’s the first line and I’m not sure what the title is.
I haven’t yet given out money, but I have made an extra effort to make eye contact with strangers and smile, to let a waiting car in traffic come into my lane, to say nice things to salesclerks during these hectic times, and to be extra patient with elderly drivers and those that move at a snail’s pace down narrow department store aisles (I try to think of all elderly people as my parents).

Favorite song this time of year, well, I have a couple but ‘I’ll be home for Christmas’ sung by Bing Crosby always gets to me.

As for my $20, I don’t walk past a Salvation Army red bucket without putting at least $1 in it. Also, I work part-time in a grocery store and if someone is short a few cents, I always dig in my pocket for it. And while cashing the people out, I try to be cheerful and brighten their day just a little.

    Happy Holidays Everyone!!

I dont know what the $20 club is but I made donations to 2 families in need listed in a local paper, bought a jacket and a shirt for a needy man who is a client of my daughter’s and donated to the Lions Club towards a food basket.

I love Josh Groban’s Oh Holy Night and TransSiberian Orchestra’s Christmas Canon. Every year we go with friends to a Christmas concert nearby and it is wonderful At the end we have a singalong.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
