Hero or Heroine

Written by Cindy Kirk in Jaunty Post

A friend and I were discussing what we absolutely had to have in a book to label it a keeper and we both said the book had to have a hero we could love. Of course the book also had to have a heroine we liked and admired for her strength etc, but we absolutely HAD to love the hero.

My very first book that sold (back when I was writing inspirational romance) had a hero who was a minister…”Pastor Dan.” The senior editor that bought the book said she “just loved the hero.” Which led me to wonder if having a hero you can fall in love with is a must for most readers (and editors!)

I guess before I started writing I never really thought about what I liked in the books I ended up enjoying, certainly never spent time analyzing them. Unless, of course, you count rewriting an ending I didn’t like, or changing the hero or heroine’s history if I didn’t like what they’d been given ….but those are just minor things. After all, doesn’t everyone do that?

What about you? Rewriting endings? Changing backstory? Falling in love with the hero? Or….are you a person who focuses on the heroine?? Inquiging minds want to know….
