Movies

I am SO ready for some decent films to come along. Ever since we stopped needing a babysitter, my husband and I have had sort of a loose standing date to go to the movies at some point during the weekend. But the choices lately have been abysmal! I’m hoping all that will change with Memorial Day.

Bring on the summer fluff movies – I love ‘em! Summer is when we first got Pirates of the Carribean and Independence Day. We first saw Men in Black in the summer, and so many others I can hardly remember. Last summer it was War of the Worlds, which fell flat for me. I was sort of rooting for the aliens rather than TC.

We saw Poseidon last weekend and … well, my fingernails are gone, and Josh Lucas was a treat to watch [sigh] … but the movie had nothing going for it other than special effects. I’m anxious to see Pirates II (although a little worried about the sequel). The DaVinci Code is on my list, but we won’t be there the first day. I enjoyed the first X-Men movies and we’ll probably go again, but I’m not all that excited about it. And what about romantic comedies? Are there any on the horizon?

What summer movies are you looking forward to?

    Absolutely none. LOL I’m not much of a movie goer, so when I go, it’s for really important reasons. Like last year, Star Wars Episode III. Then before that Star Wars Episode II. And so on. And of course there is Star Trek 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. I’m like the one person out there who loved number 5 and 7. :) There were a couple in high school that have nothing to do with Space, the final frontier and such. But I’ll catch movies on DVD or tv. For example, I caught two movies in the past month or so that I want to get on DVD now – Bridget Jones’s Diary is one. Sigh. :) I remember the commercials, and always figured it was Bridget Jones and the Hugh Grant character that got together because it was always them they showed. The ending was much better. Particularly after finally getting Pride and Prejudice a couple months ago. :)

    Actually, Margo, I’m taking notes from your blog. I hardly ever make it to the movies! I guess I’ll go see The DaVinci Code. I thought the book was okay, and I like Tom Hanks.

    Quick google of summer movies…

    Okay, I’ll have to see The Devil Wears Prada, too, and probably A Prairie Home Companion. Also How to Eat Fried Worms looks cute. I seem to like the movies based on books.

    Ten to one, I see none of these. I don’t think my book will be done until late July, so I’ll be in front of the computer until then.

    I don’t go to see movies much, with 4 kids it just seems cheaper and easy to buy the DVD when it comes out. I will be buying Pirates II when it comes out, not sure of any others.

    No kidding, Kristol – can you believe the price of a ticket? We’ll often go to the dollar theater – sometimes a movie just HAS to be seen on the big screen :-)

    I’m really looking forward to the X-Men 3 movie. I am a huge X-Men fan as well as a huge Hugh Jackman fan. Put the two together and I’m in heaven, LOL! Plus, I just HAVE to see Kelsey Grammar as the blue, furry Beast. That should be interesting. :) You know, I had read a rumor somewhere that Josh Holloway of Lost had been offered the part of Gambit and turned it down. Not sure if there is any truth to it or not. I thought that was funny, since I was just thinking not all that long ago that he would be perfect in that role. I can’t believe he would turn it down!

    Hmmm. I bet I know which movie Shirley is looking forward to. ;)

    I’m really looking forward to The Break Up–I HOPE that’s a romantic comedy. It would really suck if they stay broken up.

    Another one I’m looking forward to is Pirates II, X Men 3, Superman Returns (I’m surprised no one mentioned that yet!), ummmm… I can’t think of anything else…

    Can’t wait to see X-3! I love the X-Men movies, and the third is coming out the weekend of my birthday, so I’m hoping for dinner and a movie with the hubby. :)

    Well I’ve a sad story to tell. I havent been to a movie on the big screen since Princess Diaries came out and I’m not talking about part two. Why you might ask. Well my husband hates going to the movies with a passion. Huge bummer for me.

    I have sweet talked him into taking me to see Pirates of the Carribean when it comes out. I can’t wait to see Johnny Depp on the big screen. Yummy. I’m so excited that he’s agreed to go. Woohoo.

    Every time I see an ad for Miami Vice I just stare at it and blink a bit. It’s just so weird to me that they remade MV for the big screen…
